Brooklyn Amity School

The school is okay. I don't think anyone should go to the high school if they're not Turkish.None of the students even TRY to speak English when they clearly know it. A lot of the teachers don't know how to teach or even speak proper English. The Middle School is excellent but High School is based only on Dormitory girls.No sport teams are offered at all. Some classes are also unnecessary.This school is supposed to be diverse but it's also Turkish. I wish that they hired American teachers so student's wouldn't be able to talk in Turkish.

It is absolutely a fantastic school. Unlike public schools and many private schools, Amity provides good academic education. Moreover, it also provides excellent moral and personal education for my child. I truly can say that Amity is not best private school in Brooklyn but it is a very good one.

School administrators tell teachers to add 15% to failing students' grades. There are no programs or testing available for students with special needs. If a student shows signs of a learning disability, he/she is placed into ESL classes (even if they actually speak English)! Admin will only take you seriously if you're Turkish, as this is a Turk-run school. Turkish teachers are not monitored closely by admin and most Google PowerPoints for their lessons instead of creating real lesson plans. Most of those teacher, as well as the administration, have inept English language and communication skills. This creates for a very difficult learning environment for students. One of the admins didn't even know what standardized testing was! Unfortunately, the school cares more about getting parents' money than providing their kids a quality education. Lastly, there are no emergency/evacuation procedures in place at the school.

Very displeased with this school. My child's character education class is just worksheets printed off the internet. The match teacher instructs my child's class to use the multiplication table to do division without actually teaching the kids HOW to divide! Many of the teachers barely speak English!!! My child constantly complains about not being able to understand the teacher in class. The administration seems to change often for reasons unknown. After the many school shootings that occurred recently, I asked the Vice Principal how they keep the students safe, and the reply was that all the emergency exits have an "Exit" sign marking. Very very dissatisfied!!!!!!!!

this is a Turkish school and if youre looking to go to it's high school then be aware that you have to be turkish (if your not i guarantee you that you will not fit in).. the students there are really rude and teachers don't really know what their doing Some of the classes there are wasted doing absolutely nothing and you will not benefit getting a good education in this school.. this school also provides very little sports that are required for colleges

this was the best year ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my son 6th grader who came to school this year wrote last week. This school makes kids to love education. This school challenges each child. Gifted have opportunities to compete in science and math Olympiads while struggling students receive help after school. There are so many good quality clubs as after school program. Gym teacher, many times world champion, has excellent karate club, Social Study teacher said for my son who was not crazy about education in other school "O. brought positive energy to my class" She is actually one who turned his energy into positive one. All cultures and religions are welcomed and kids are thought to respect differences and be proud of who they are. School stuff is excellent role model for students with their dress code, way they interact with each others, way they treat students with the respect, way they deal with undesirable behavior, ...everything. Students are coming form homes where education and good behavior is highly valued. Shortly as a NYC teacher I must say that this is the best NY school that I know. I am blessed to have opportunity to have my two children in this school...

this school excellent.. everything great, especially teachers. they are so helpful and sensitive.. and I don't agree with some reviewers. this school provides many opportunities for students.. by the way ,in this school, boys can't join 10. grade .!

Teachers are not well-versed in American standards of learning or English in general. It wouldn't surprise me if their high school graduates only went as far as community college. The quality of education at this institution is appalling.

Our daughter joined Amity this year for high school and loves it. She enjoys having this be central to the academic experience. Everyone is welcoming to new kids and their families. The teachers are very bright and engaged in their work. The adminisration is very responsive to the needs of the children. I totally disagree with the previous reviewer and would like to reminder him/her Brooklyn Amity School has only GIRLS in its 9th and 10th Grade Classes.

I have my son in this school, he is 10th grade, I am not happy with the school s overall performance; I rate this school below average because it is a private school, I would rate it average if it was public school. I expected a lot more from private school. If your child struggles at any educational level then you better look for other private school or for very good public school. The teachers are strictly concentrating on straight A students, students that love school; but they pretty much neglecting students they don t like school that much; the teachers won t contact you if your child doesn t show-up in school or if your child didn t attend some of the mid or end periods; they won t contact you if your child s performance is worsening, or he/she didn t do homework. School doesn t have a GYM, the class-rooms are so small, some teachers are from Turkey and their English is very poor so it is hard for students to understand them. They need to have a principal who is able to keep everything under control, but instead they have a principal that is too mallow and in my opinion a person that does not fit for the position as a school principal.

I have a son at Brooklyn Amity school and we both like Amity. They have a lot of program and have small classes which is very good for my son.

I honestly can not accept this comment as a general idea because of my own experience in this school . Teachers and administrators are very sensitive on taking care of our sons and daughters while with them . One day , I sent my son to the summer camp near the Pocanos ,PA for a week . Usually my son doesnt really care about calling me and informing me how everything goes .However , during the camp with Brooklyn Amity Teachers my son showed dramatic changes such as being organize , putting even his dirty clothes organizely , taking care of his sister and helping her to do her homework . I dont think someone who was threated well can do all these things after staying only a week in a summer camp . Brooklyn Amity School tought my son not only empowered his academic interest but also changed his life.

amity schools education system for upper grades is great! however, the camp programs for little children and other activities are horrible. no one is around the building. they leave the children unattended and do not hand them in directly to their families.

I have not been pleased with Brooklyn Amity's performance in my child's education. It's a private school but it feels like a boot camp for my child. She deserves a much better education and should be treated with respect. I have read a previous review by a parent, yes the school has paintball but girls aren't allowed to play, because of their gender. The teachers don't respect the students and I think some changes need to be done, and if there isn't no changes done I don't think anyone will go there anymore.

Education in our family plays a very important role. My responsibility as a mother is preparing my kids for life and providing them with the best opportunities. We would like to thank all of the faculty members for making it possible. Everyone here is simply wonderful. We frequently have the pleasure and opportunity to talk to Vice Principal Bill O Reilly who is extremely attentive. He always shows enormous devotion and concern as to how to improve my son s future in order to ensure passage to the most prestigious universities. Vice Principal Vahit Sevinc has made a great impact on the school by keeping it safe and respectful. It is really most extraordinary to see the individualized commitment to each and every student, a task which may seem impossible to others comes to him with ease and genuine pleasure.

My son went to 7 & 8th grades at Amity, after having a pretty casual education at a local junior high school. Our reasons for transferring were to have him receive the best preparation for specialized high school entrance exams. With the emphasis on science and math, he received advanced and quality education as well as free tutoring on the weekends. The tutoring was geared specifically for the entrance exams as well as various competitions - Science Olympiad, Math Counts and SimCity. When/if there was any free time, they would be taken on school trips(FBI building) and extracurricular activities such as paintball! He was also able to play in the school band to cheer on the NY City Marathon runners when they ran thru Brooklyn. Parent involvement is a must with Amity. The teachers have your number on their speed dials! Results for us- our son is in Brooklyn Tech now!
