We feel extremely lucky to have found MACADEMY for our 3 youngest children. If my wife hadn't heard the principal speak at an event, we might have missed it. The school is small and so fell under the radar. I saw it on greatschools.com, but because there were so few reviews I almost didn't look into it. The academics are strong and demanding and yet my kids love it. I went to an Ivy league college and hope my kids do as well; I have high academic standards and MACADEMY has fully met them so far. My youngest started full time at 2 years old and was getting homework right away (tracing:)) . My 8 year old is doing basic algebra! The small school allows for a lot of student/teacher interaction and a great community feeling. We don't have all of the facilities that larger elite private schools may have, but I think the school delivers more on the academic front. Our oldest child attends one of the elite independent schools and MACADEMY has a more rigorous academic curriculum.

I think the best way to describe Macademy is this: Traditional without being BOUND by tradition. They're consistent, disciplined, but willing to 'think differently' when the need arises. Every child is an individual worthy of dignity and respect, and Macademy fiercely adheres to this principle. Their teachers are always in charge and, to a person, committed to their students' academic and personal development. I'd like to recognize individual teachers for their excellence but I'm afraid to leave anyone out - and this isn't the proper forum - but I do recognize their competence and execution, for which I'm grateful.

M.A.C.A.D.E.M.Y. is a wonderful school that exceeds all expectations. It is one of those schools that you would place not only your children but anybody elses children that you know needs extra help. It is organized and well structured so that the children who attends the school know who they are and where they are going. Anyone who has a problem with the school is most likely a parent whose child is not doing well and there is absolutely no hope for that child. Most parents go the extra mile for further education because they want their children to be better than themselves and they know in the long run if you invest in your child now then you will not have to pay for it later. I have a 12 year old and a 5 year old at MACADEMY and I can honestly say I am extremely happy with my children's progress. I feel that MACADEMY is giving me a top rate education that most people wish they could have. The school is Extremely Organized. In 7th grade we are planning for high schools of the elite. The curriculum is rigorous. But the children can handle it. There is absolutely No bullying physically or mentally. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants a top rate education.

Where do I start? This school has a series of issues. 1. Organization - They are understaffed in their administration department, they have one person handling all parent and external request. If you need something forwarded to another school, Doctor or government entity. Good luck. Items are delivered so late it almost feels like it's done maliciously. 2. Curriculum - Yes the curriculum is rigorous, but there some things that can't be rushed. The way they teach math is absurd. Kids will move from one topic to the next without spending adequate time to fully comprehend what they are learning. While you can memorize most subjects in school, math is not one of them. My child had trouble retaining most if not all the math taught at Macademy. 3. Bullying - While Macademy is a small knit community, and you won't have to worry about physical bullying, There is a lot of psychological bullying taking place at Macademy that most teachers the principal included does that take seriously. Macademy is a good place to start but I would not let them spend their entire school career there. It's lacking of physical activities as well as a sense of the real world.

I have two children here one is pre K the other in the 6th grade. The teachers are caring, know each student by their first name and really push the limits of what children can accomplish. My 3 year old is writing his name, can tell me about time and transportation. My older son has made nearly 5 short videos on WW2, fossils and slavery. My only regret is that they do not have enough physical education.

When my children started at MACADEMY they were 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 years old. We were reluctant at first being that we had to travel from queens. But since the reviews were so good we decided to make the sacrifice. We are so glad we did. The teachers are so nurturing and yet firm at the same time. Not easy to find such a combination. I would pick up my girls and they would not want to leave. They would also hug their teachers each time they left. I don't remember loving my teachers or school this much. My four year old who is now five is doing second grade level work. She is way passed her peers in other schools. The administrative staff is very supportive and expect the same from the parents. It is a true partnership and I truly appreciate everything they do for my girls. I have no regrets. I LOVE this school.

Macademy is an excellent school! Last year we moved from Soho to Crown Heights & needed a school for 3 of our 4 children. We wanted something that was academically strong, had great parent involvement & high achievement standards. PLUS, was intimate & nurturing. Our kids were going to school for the first time! Macademy has surpassed all our expectations. Our children LOVE class & when they come home they LOVE doing homework. They even ask us to 'play school' at home. What they've learned in a year is outstanding. Reading, math, science, history, social studies are all priorities. Well before 1st grade, they become avid readers & excited learners! The driving forces behind Macademy are the teachers. Many have 2nd degrees. They are dedicated & focuses on the whole child. All 3 of my kids have matured & become more outgoing/respectful. We have an older child in a well known private school that we also love. Macademy is on par academically with that prep school! Macademy is housed in converted brownstones, so the environment is very comfortable, home-like & inviting. Although we really need a gym facility, we couldn't be more pleased with the academics. Happy Mom

Macademy is a small intimate school with a strong academic program. It is family oriented and instill discipline. It focuses on the entire development of the student. This is a top rated education facility. It rivals most high priced private schools. The principal is a passionate educator who strive for excellence. The teachers are the best and take personal interest in each student. if you are looking for a good private school Macademy is the place to be. I have three kids attending the school and have not regretted one day. This is an exceptional school that deserves more recognition.

The intimacy of the school and dedication of the faculty is truly a positive environment for your child, which fosters grow and discovery in a protective environment. MACADEMY encourages academic learning according to each student's individual style. The end results (from pre-K through 8h grade) is a testimony in itself.

M A C A D E M Y is a wonderful school. The teachers are very knowledgable, competent and professional. They really care about their students education. Staff goes above in beyond with helping any students who are having difficulties with academics. The teachers let you know where your child needs help the most and thats what I love about this school. On a scale of 1-10 I rate it a 9.5. There are two things that I do not like. One they do not serve lunch and two sometimes the administrative staff can be short with you but they make up for that by going above and beyond with the educational standards that they uphold.

If you are looking for a great school with an intimate atmosphere then this is the school. My child started in the 3 rd grade. He has just completed the 4th grade with a straight A average. His teachers, the principle as well as the administrators are always looking for how he can further improve himself. I love it so much that I have decided to enroll my 3 year old. I only wish they went straight thru high school. Sopping at 8th grade is just not enough.

My only regret was removing my daughter from MACADEMY in 2008. She is back home, where she getting the love, teaching and help she deserve. I don't feel like am the only one teaching her. The teachers let you know where your child needs help the most and thats what I love about this school. I now have two of my children in MACADEMY and must say thank you to all of the teachers especially Trish, Mrs Rice, Ms Howe, Ms Joseph, Ms Bratton, Mr Howe and Mrs Bishop.

I have watched my 11 year old transitioned from shyness, to speaking up in class and volunteering to read in front the class. I believe Macademy's environment has contributed to the passion and dedication this student now have, when doing school work.

The curriculum provided to the scholars of MACADEMY is superior to any other program, public or private, that I have investigated. The teachers are knowledgeable and well trained in their field which allows them to teach the scholars with improved methods that enable the scholars to go beyond their parents expectations academically. Principal Bishop Gonzales ensures that each scholar obtains all the skills necessary to perform well on all tests by insisting the scholars use their "criticial thinking" skills they learn as a student of MACADEMY. Our son did so well at MACADEMY that he went on to receive a schlarship to a private high school. Our daughter attends the school as well and she is so proud of herself. I have seen a increase in her confidence to tackle new ideas and projects.

Words cannot describe how happy I am to have found MACADEMY. I went down the list of all the schools on the internet from A-Z trying to find the right school for my soon to be 2 year old. I called MACADEMY and scheduled a tour and it was love at first visit.Their environment, curriculum, class size and overwhelming love and concern for all their students makes this school one of a kind. My daughter went from a shy toddler to a confident, intelligent and outspoken 3 year old. Her verbal and thought process amazes me every day. I am extremely pleased with the education that my child is receiving and I cannot wait to see her reach her maximum potential and beyond at MACADEMY. Bishop Gonzales and her staff are doing an excellent job!

I have had all three of my children attend MACADEMY and I have never had any regrets or complaints. When my kids graduated, all of them were a grade or two above and have gone on to their respective JHS and HSs with an advantage academically. They provide such a wonderfully loving , caring and open environment that allows children to express themselves freely, to ask questions, to have those questions answered, to be outspoken. I just admire and give thanks that my children were able to receive such a positive learning experience.

I have only positive things to say about MACADEMY. My son has been in this school since he was 2, he is now 8 and working two grades above his level. I am impressed with the way the students are encouraged to have open dialog and discussions about ALL topics. My son is very confident and outspoken and he actually enjoys going to school, which is something I find amazing. I have tremendous respect for Bishop Gonzales and her staff on the great work they're doing and I look forward to my son continuing his years at MACADEMY until he heads off to High School.

There are many things that I am happy to report about MACADEMY. The class sizes are small allowing for more individualized student attention. The teachers and administration are committed to helping all of the students achieve academic excellence. Parents have easy access to the teachers and administration. All cultures are celebrated and as a result the students receive broad cultural sensitization. This is one of the few schools, that I know of, that recognizes the contributions of many leaders in different fields both locally and internationally. Most important MACADEMY recognizes and celebrates all student achievements. MACADEMY is also working tirelessly to include more creative arts and sports in their curriculum. My children are doing well, are happy to attend and will continue to attend MACADEMY.

My son said farwell to his friends and one of the greatest schools in Brooklyn. It was indeed a tearful graduating afternoon with teachers and students crying. My son started Macademy at 3 yrs old and is off to high school. At this dynamic school he as passed all of his required state exams most with distinction. While attendind Macademy he recieved several scholarships in Art. His art works are on display at the famous Brooklyn Museum of Art. It was his Principal Bishop Gonzales who encouraged his academic excellence and artistic gift. He has received awards from President George W. Bush, Governor David Paterson and Congress woman Yvette D. Clarke for his outstanding academic achievements. Macademy you are a 10 star school. Thanks

I am very impressed with the work that MACADEMY does. My daughter is in their Pre-Kindergarden program and she is performing at an outstanding level. After two weeks of her attending MACADEMY, I noticed the improvement with her speech and social development. I would highly recommend MACADEMY to anyone that is looking to enroll their child in a great school.

My child has been a student at MACADEMY since she was 2, she is now 9. The level of education that is taught at this school is extremely high. My daughter is two grades above her level and she recently took the NYS Exams and got all 4s. Bishop Gonzales is certainly the force behind this great institution and I am very happy that my child is exposed to this type of academic and social enhancement.

I was highly disappointed by the overall feel of the school. It is highly disorganized, the children do not get a regular time of recess, and very little to no field trips at all (and you are required to cover the cost). I really would not recommend sending my child there at all. For the high cost of tuition, and very little in what you recieve you would be better sending them to another private or public school.

m.a.c.a.d.e.m.y is by far like no other school. my child was in a government run school before attending macademy and he learnt nothing. Within 2 days of starting in macademy my son was telling me all that he learned in school and was excited about going to school for a change. In one month his progress was out of this world. In short the teachers are phenomenal people. I recommend this school to one and all
