We feel extremely lucky to have found MACADEMY for our 3 youngest children. If my wife hadn't heard the principal speak at an event, we might have missed it. The school is small and so fell under the radar. I saw it on greatschools.com, but because there were so few reviews I almost didn't look into it. The academics are strong and demanding and yet my kids love it. I went to an Ivy league college and hope my kids do as well; I have high academic standards and MACADEMY has fully met them so far. My youngest started full time at 2 years old and was getting homework right away (tracing:)) . My 8 year old is doing basic algebra! The small school allows for a lot of student/teacher interaction and a great community feeling. We don't have all of the facilities that larger elite private schools may have, but I think the school delivers more on the academic front. Our oldest child attends one of the elite independent schools and MACADEMY has a more rigorous academic curriculum.

I think the best way to describe Macademy is this: Traditional without being BOUND by tradition. They're consistent, disciplined, but willing to 'think differently' when the need arises. Every child is an individual worthy of dignity and respect, and Macademy fiercely adheres to this principle. Their teachers are always in charge and, to a person, committed to their students' academic and personal development. I'd like to recognize individual teachers for their excellence but I'm afraid to leave anyone out - and this isn't the proper forum - but I do recognize their competence and execution, for which I'm grateful.

M.A.C.A.D.E.M.Y. is a wonderful school that exceeds all expectations. It is one of those schools that you would place not only your children but anybody elses children that you know needs extra help. It is organized and well structured so that the children who attends the school know who they are and where they are going. Anyone who has a problem with the school is most likely a parent whose child is not doing well and there is absolutely no hope for that child. Most parents go the extra mile for further education because they want their children to be better than themselves and they know in the long run if you invest in your child now then you will not have to pay for it later. I have a 12 year old and a 5 year old at MACADEMY and I can honestly say I am extremely happy with my children's progress. I feel that MACADEMY is giving me a top rate education that most people wish they could have. The school is Extremely Organized. In 7th grade we are planning for high schools of the elite. The curriculum is rigorous. But the children can handle it. There is absolutely No bullying physically or mentally. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants a top rate education.

Where do I start? This school has a series of issues. 1. Organization - They are understaffed in their administration department, they have one person handling all parent and external request. If you need something forwarded to another school, Doctor or government entity. Good luck. Items are delivered so late it almost feels like it's done maliciously. 2. Curriculum - Yes the curriculum is rigorous, but there some things that can't be rushed. The way they teach math is absurd. Kids will move from one topic to the next without spending adequate time to fully comprehend what they are learning. While you can memorize most subjects in school, math is not one of them. My child had trouble retaining most if not all the math taught at Macademy. 3. Bullying - While Macademy is a small knit community, and you won't have to worry about physical bullying, There is a lot of psychological bullying taking place at Macademy that most teachers the principal included does that take seriously. Macademy is a good place to start but I would not let them spend their entire school career there. It's lacking of physical activities as well as a sense of the real world.

I have two children here one is pre K the other in the 6th grade. The teachers are caring, know each student by their first name and really push the limits of what children can accomplish. My 3 year old is writing his name, can tell me about time and transportation. My older son has made nearly 5 short videos on WW2, fossils and slavery. My only regret is that they do not have enough physical education.

When my children started at MACADEMY they were 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 years old. We were reluctant at first being that we had to travel from queens. But since the reviews were so good we decided to make the sacrifice. We are so glad we did. The teachers are so nurturing and yet firm at the same time. Not easy to find such a combination. I would pick up my girls and they would not want to leave. They would also hug their teachers each time they left. I don't remember loving my teachers or school this much. My four year old who is now five is doing second grade level work. She is way passed her peers in other schools. The administrative staff is very supportive and expect the same from the parents. It is a true partnership and I truly appreciate everything they do for my girls. I have no regrets. I LOVE this school.

Macademy is an excellent school! Last year we moved from Soho to Crown Heights & needed a school for 3 of our 4 children. We wanted something that was academically strong, had great parent involvement & high achievement standards. PLUS, was intimate & nurturing. Our kids were going to school for the first time! Macademy has surpassed all our expectations. Our children LOVE class & when they come home they LOVE doing homework. They even ask us to 'play school' at home. What they've learned in a year is outstanding. Reading, math, science, history, social studies are all priorities. Well before 1st grade, they become avid readers & excited learners! The driving forces behind Macademy are the teachers. Many have 2nd degrees. They are dedicated & focuses on the whole child. All 3 of my kids have matured & become more outgoing/respectful. We have an older child in a well known private school that we also love. Macademy is on par academically with that prep school! Macademy is housed in converted brownstones, so the environment is very comfortable, home-like & inviting. Although we really need a gym facility, we couldn't be more pleased with the academics. Happy Mom

Macademy is a small intimate school with a strong academic program. It is family oriented and instill discipline. It focuses on the entire development of the student. This is a top rated education facility. It rivals most high priced private schools. The principal is a passionate educator who strive for excellence. The teachers are the best and take personal interest in each student. if you are looking for a good private school Macademy is the place to be. I have three kids attending the school and have not regretted one day. This is an exceptional school that deserves more recognition.

The intimacy of the school and dedication of the faculty is truly a positive environment for your child, which fosters grow and discovery in a protective environment. MACADEMY encourages academic learning according to each student's individual style. The end results (from pre-K through 8h grade) is a testimony in itself.

M A C A D E M Y is a wonderful school. The teachers are very knowledgable, competent and professional. They really care about their students education. Staff goes above in beyond with helping any students who are having difficulties with academics. The teachers let you know where your child needs help the most and thats what I love about this school. On a scale of 1-10 I rate it a 9.5. There are two things that I do not like. One they do not serve lunch and two sometimes the administrative staff can be short with you but they make up for that by going above and beyond with the educational standards that they uphold.

If you are looking for a great school with an intimate atmosphere then this is the school. My child started in the 3 rd grade. He has just completed the 4th grade with a straight A average. His teachers, the principle as well as the administrators are always looking for how he can further improve himself. I love it so much that I have decided to enroll my 3 year old. I only wish they went straight thru high school. Sopping at 8th grade is just not enough.

My only regret was removing my daughter from MACADEMY in 2008. She is back home, where she getting the love, teaching and help she deserve. I don't feel like am the only one teaching her. The teachers let you know where your child needs help the most and thats what I love about this school. I now have two of my children in MACADEMY and must say thank you to all of the teachers especially Trish, Mrs Rice, Ms Howe, Ms Joseph, Ms Bratton, Mr Howe and Mrs Bishop.

I have watched my 11 year old transitioned from shyness, to speaking up in class and volunteering to read in front the class. I believe Macademy's environment has contributed to the passion and dedication this student now have, when doing school work.

The curriculum provided to the scholars of MACADEMY is superior to any other program, public or private, that I have investigated. The teachers are knowledgeable and well trained in their field which allows them to teach the scholars with improved methods that enable the scholars to go beyond their parents expectations academically. Principal Bishop Gonzales ensures that each scholar obtains all the skills necessary to perform well on all tests by insisting the scholars use their "criticial thinking" skills they learn as a student of MACADEMY. Our son did so well at MACADEMY that he went on to receive a schlarship to a private high school. Our daughter attends the school as well and she is so proud of herself. I have seen a increase in her confidence to tackle new ideas and projects.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

Oops! We currently do not have any student information for this school. We rely on the state Department of Education, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), and in some cases school administrators such as registrars and principals for this data.
