This is my daughters first year at the middle school. The B-team (Shinning Stars) is an amazing team of teachers. My daughter loves school this year. The opportunities and experiences she has gained are fantastic! I am so glad that we have such an amazing music department at DMS too. Bullying is rare and teachers nip it as soon as they are aware of it. Keep up the great job.

My youngest daughter really has a good time with good friends and great teachers. She does very well and likes to go there everyday. She couldn't wait to get back after the winter and spring breaks. The vice principle is really great as well as the other staff and faculty. DMS has really got it goin' on!

Outstanding school with great activities for children. A very diverse student body that offers a wonderful multi-cultural experience.

I am a former employee, and my grandson was a student in 6th grade, subjected to so much bullying, he fell behind in his work, was afraid to go to school, so consequently, the family decided to leave dunkirk altogether. Shame on the parents for raising their kids to be bully's. And the administration for not addressing the problem of gangs.

Usually the people who complain heavily about this school are the ones who are hardly involved in it at all. Many see diversity as an equivalent to trouble and blame the teachers instead of themselves. Dunkirk Middle School has amazing teachers who really genuinely care about the well-being and achievements of each student. At the same time, they can't force a child (or their parents) to care. I just wish that people would think twice before spewing nothing but negativity. Look around. The same problems are at every school. I'll agree that bullying was a problem. Guess what? It happens in every school in America. As a former student, I am a better and more accepting person because of Dunkirk. So please THINK before you complain about this school.

In no way is this school safe for any child. If you have other options, please use them. It's all about the money not the kids best interest.

If you have any other options...use them. Do not send your child to this school if you can avoid it. If your child needs any extra help at all or has any difficulties in school there is not much help here. Many behavioral problems are not addressed..need more parent involvement too. Do have a decent band, chorus.

My review is not just as a parent, but as a former alumni. There is grave concern to me about the level of bullying and teacher favoritism. There is also a concern of faculty prejudging a child based on 'familiar' last names. What I mean by that is that a child's punishment will be harsher on a first offense if a previous child with the same last name offended in some way. The aforementioned child will not have his or her personnal accomplishments taken into consideration.

As a parent and a former student I believe that the academic program is poor. There is little to no homework assigned to the students. Extracurricular activities are sometimes cut due to lack of funding. Parent involvement is a two edged sword. Faculty become overly concerned about their authority being threatened when a concerned parent questions about the level of bullying and what is being done in the school.

I think this school is definately safer this year, there are teachers in the halls on every bell, they are at entrances and exits before and after school and are working with the children to create a more orderly, safe environment. This school district is working on the safety of it's students in all it's schools. The band teacher mr. Golando is execellent! kids have an incentive program and one day a month the school does something with or for the kids. This school offers music, sports and extracurricular activities. They work hard to teach the children the core subjects and offer extra help if you ask for it or if their teacher sees you need it. They want the kids to succeed. Parents are encouraged to be involved in the pta, band boosters and more.
