As an immigrant coming from a very foreign place and a vastly different culture, it was this establishment that brought me to where I am today. I will always love P.S.86 Q and give it credit for building a base of excellence within me that has led me to graduate from a top university, and has brought me to my dream of graduating from medical school. The teachers that taught me here from 1999-2004 were the best and most passionate teachers I've ever encountered. I owe this school everything, and I hope one day I am able to give it something back.

The school management is very lazy keeping up with students development. Some teachers are so rude with the parents that we wonder how they treat the kids.

My son will be attending ps 86 this fall and having second thoughts about my choice. How can I be assured that my child will be receiving the best education when the school has a 3 star rating. What is being done to improve the quality of education. Please help.

P.S. 86Q has been my home for 27 years. The children are learning and teachers are very involved in many wonderful activities. But, we could certainly use extra $$$ to supplement these activities, especially in the area of technology. Many of our teachers would do wonderful projects if we had the resources!

29 years in this building. wonderful children, caring staff. I have had the opportunity to do wonderful things in this school. I was even in the Ann Landers newspaper column, actually P.S. 86 and I were the Ann Landers Column, nation-wide in December, 2002.

Ps 86 is one of the most welcoming and helpful school in the area. I have been lucky to meet most of the teachers and staff. From ms zuvic, the pricipal to the teachers, to the parent coordinator, to the kitchen staff... All are extremely nice and they help you from the minute you come into the building, it becomes a long term relationship when your child attends the school. They are there for you no matter what! this is my favorite school.

I feel that overall the school is intermediate. However, I feel much more activities i.e track and field, swimming, or academic workshops should be offered.

PS 86 is an Urban Elementary school that serves grades 3 thru 6. It runs at about 110% capacity and lacks adequate auditorium and playground facilities. It shares a campus with Hillcrest High School. The school has demonstrated consistent success in literacy and mathematics for the past seven years. The population is approximately 80% free lunch eligible. The major language groups are Spanish and Bengali. The school is currently in transition as a new Principal needs to be selected. The school is the recipient of a 21ST Century Grant in collaboration with the Forest Hills Community House. Through the grant extensive after school recreation and academic programs are provided for all students. In addition, a primary health care clinic is on site through a collaboration with the Queens Hospital Network. Parent participation and involvement is fair.

In 2012-2013 New York used the New York State Regents Examinations to test high school students in English, math, global history and geography, US history and government, living environment, chemistry, Earth science and physics. Students must take at least five Regents Exams in order to graduate. Scores of 65 and above are passing; scores of 55 and above earn credit toward a local diploma (with the approval of the local board of education). The goal is for all students to pass the tests.
