P.S. 87 Middle Village

I just transferred my som from a horrible school in middle village. The school aide is a bully who screams in the kids faces. The principal, well let's just say all he cares about are the grades and not the kids. The parent teacher coordinator is completely useless and never helps the parents at all. My kids were being bullied not only by other kids but the school aide and nothing was being done. I walked into 87 the principal and parent teacher coordinator were so welcoming it was like being in another world. They listened to me complain and cry for two weeks and didn't even know me. I have made the right choice they really care about the kids here. It's not a military camp.

My child is a Preschool student and her teachers Mrs. Elkaim and Mrs Horkan are wonderful educators. My daughter is already writing her name and subtracting! Im so greatful and pleased with the quality education at this school and recommend it highly to all parents!!!

Today, my horrible experienced at another school, turned to joy after meeting the kindest, most compassion secretary Maria to the Principal, Ms. Machaeli, who then sat me down with the assistant principals, and some teachers, during their lunc ... to make sure the one thing i took with me is that "They all truly care about their families!" My son who is on the autism spectrum was at home instantly being greeted by a wonderful male safety agent! I am still smiling with relief of finding an entire school that cares!

I love P.S./I.S. 87 in Middle Village because the principal and staff make my children feel welcome and safe. The sense of community is amazing. The teachers care about helping the students be their very best. The staff is on top of any issue that may arise and the communication between the parents and staff is excellent.

I have 2 children who attend PS/IS 87 in Middle Village. First, let me say that I have seen 4 principals in 7 years come through this school. The school was an absolute mess until Caryn Michaeli took the reigns. The children love going in every day and having her greet them at the door. She knows every child's name and every child knows they can go to her with any concern they have about anything. As a parent, the curriculum is the by far the best I have ever seen in the system. When you have children coming home and actually talking about what they're learning, to me, is an inspiration. The teachers and entire staff of PSIS 87 are more than dedicated to their positions. There is no 'overcrowded mess' here. Take the time to do some research, and you'll see we're fighting for what we need and deserve.

If you want your child to have not only a great education, but also to learn about Leadership,Integrity, Fairness, and Self Esteem, this is a wonderful school for you and your child. My children have been attending PS/IS87 since 2001, and I have not one complaint about the Principal, Teachers or Staff. This is a school designed as a family with values. All children are equal and all children are given respect & in return they show respect to their peers & others.Due to past bureaucracy our school does not have some updated facilities, and is lacking facility space. However, we have overcome this throughout the years, and will hopefully Gain this in the near future. Without a doubt, this school and staff both work to serve the students AT ALL TIMES. The reality about PS 87Q is that it has been a PS/IS Pre-K thru 8th grade school for the past 5 years. Ms. Michaeli, Principal is the best thing that ever walked into the arches of this school. Every student is treated with respect, and dignity. She truly cares about each and every student full well knowing their names, parents and every situation and concern they have. In fact, every parent and staff member has her private cell number in which they can reach at anytime they deem necessary. There isn't a day when a student doesn't walk into her room for a hug or a chat and is welcomed with open arms.....as for an overcrowded mess, we served as the pilot PK-8 school beginning in 2002 and was supposed to get an extension. Seven years later, we are still waiting!

If you're looking for an overcrowded mess where the kids are out of control ,this is the place.

I think PS/IS87 is a great school because I have been a student in here for 9 years, I am graduating this year. I think that almost everything the principal and the teachers have to offer is great. The teachers care about the education of the students and the safety is extremely well. All the students are hopefully proudly learning at PS/IS87 and making their way to the top.
