We love Cathedral! Our daughter started in K and is now in the upper school. We chose The Cathedral School after meeting several 8th graders at open houses. They were bright, articulate, and nice. Likewise, we have watched our daughter develop into a thoughtful, well-spoken, critical and independent thinker. During her time at the school we have learned that The Cathedral School does not produce cookie cutter students, rather the children graduate as unique, yet well-grounded, independent individuals. Year after year, the school excels at placing graduates at top tier high schools that cater to each individual students' learning style, interests, and personality. Our daughter not only has a strong foundation in the core subjects (e.g., math, English, science, foreign languages), but also in the arts, athletics, and character development. Thanks to her talented and supportive teachers she has learned to manage the the upper school’s rigorous and demanding workload. No doubt she will be well prepared for high school!

Character development is a great strength of this school. The school focuses on its core values, and the students embody that ethic.

This is a fantastic independent co-ed school for K-8 children on the Upper West Side. The school offers top notch academics After 8th grade, the school does an incredible job with exmissions, placing kids in all of the top NYC schools, but also focusing on the right schools for each child. The teachers are dedicated and push the children to excel. And at the end, the school graduates kids who are culturally intelligent, ready to be leaders in our City.

Our kids have had an outstanding experience at Cathedral. They have developed into passionate scholars and leaders in a nurturing community, amid a peacock-filled green oasis. We love the parents, too!

Handles bullying effectively: Strongly agree

The school has a zero tolerance for bullying of any kind and is taken very seriously. Students in turn are allowed to be open and comfortable.

Develops character: Strongly agree

- a
This school has a huge emphasis on community while providing a progressive and understanding environment for students of all faiths, family styles, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.

Teacher effectiveness: Agree

- a
There has been a shift in teachers in this school. Some teachers are exceptional while others still are adjusting to the school's community in terms of work structure.

Amount of homework: Strongly agree

- a
Homework was a necessary part of understanding the material. If students ever felt like they could not complete work, they had the full support of their teachers.

- a
One of the greatest school communities and a best kept secret from the NYC Independent School scene. This school is very much under rated.
