this school is great, it really and truly is. however do not expect this school to be anywhere like a specialized high school. all the teachers are absolutely amazing, they actually give a crap if you are falling behind and will stay literally until 4 or 5 to help you. every teacher does this, its not just one or two. the students are great, however as in all schools their are some kinds you don't really know how they got accepted. however 99% of the students enjoy coming in or at least don't dislike it. class rooms are very small, my chem class was my largest class with around 20 kids in it. the home work is very little, one hour at most, on rare occasion you will get 2 hours, and one weekend it stays at around two. most teachers accept late work, and deduct very few points the reason i give this school 4/5 rather than 5/5 is the fact that you must go through scanning every single morning. they have massive attitude and its a very unpleasant thing to got through every morning. school below us are scary so you always feel somewhat threatened when leaving your floor. its a great school but has a few downsides. i am very happy where i am! wouldn't want to be anywhere else

I remember MHSHS to be a decent school. Like many students, I took Algebra, Environmental Science, World History, and an English class that corresponded to our Social Studies class during my freshmen year. Those were the core classes, and they weren't very difficult classes. The key to success anywhere is organization - time management. This was very emphasized during my senior year, where I spent my school days at Hunter College, where I had the opportunity to take two college courses and two high school classes (Creative Writing, Economics/Politics) simultaneously, per semester. I had straight A's during high school, but I was an artist as well as an athlete. And I didn't feel fulfilled in some of those aspects. It is a very small school (about 100 students per graduating class), there's a uniform policy (improper clothes may lead to detention or even suspension), there is scanning each morning (recommended to arrive to school at 7:30 b/c it may take a while), thus no cell phones or other electronics are permitted inside the building. If you're a student who is an over-achiever, this may not be the school for you. If you want to attend a CUNY, great opportunity for a head start.

Manhattan Hunter Science High School is an early college high school. The principal Susan Kreisman is available to you at any time day or night. We came for orientation in 2006 for my daughter, she knew our name and where we lived. The curriculum is wonderful, pushing the students to work to their fullest potential. The teachers are caring and kind, and are available to the parents and student. Two of my children attend manhattan hunter science hs, and I feel they are lucky to be in such a new school, with innovative ideas with the gift of being able to attend college before leaving high school. I am always praising this school! I must say that the staff in the office are equally as caring and attentive. I am in awe of this instituation

Manhattan/Hunter Science High School gave me the unique opportunity to go to college while still in high school. By the time I actually started attending my college, the experience definitely helped me. While my fellow freshmen were struggling, I found it easier to cope with prior knowledge from the 4 classes I took at Hunter College. Manhattan/Hunter Science High School's teachers were always willing to help me with any question or problem that I may have had. Many of them became a second family for me, and I will always be greatful.

MHSHS is awesome. Besides the fact that we have really great teachers that always want to make sure their students are doing the best they can in their calsses, we also fund alot of special events throughout the year ranging from BBQ's, to holiday Festivities such as building edible houses for Christmas, contests, selling snacks and foods to the student body and havign a very active student government that sets up trips for the Seniors. We also have so many clubs going on: Anime club, chess club, book club, Historical film society, Chorus, Wrestling and A basketball and Volleyball team for boys and girls. We also have special opportunities to show off our talents through the school plays, musicals, talent shows, fashion shows and presenting projects. The student body is very close knit and we work together. We also have really fun trips like skiing and camping. This school has a great environment because it always lets you know that maintaining your education and still having time to do other fun things isn't too far of a distance to cross. It's simply just learning how to balance both.

I love Manhattan Hunter Science because it gives students a great advantage that many other schools in New York City don't. Our high school seniors are able to attend Hunter College to earn college credits before we even start as freshman. The school is located in a culturally enriched neighborhood. The building is shared with 5 other schools and both teachers and students get along great! It is also a 10-minute bus ride away from it's mentor college: Hunter College, whose facilities are accessible to the H.S. students. But the most important detail is that the teachers are dedicated to the success of each student. The Principal knows all the students and is an extraordinary leader and is respected by everyone. The students are encouraged and prepared for college, not just academically, but with personal touches such as time management and independent research skills. I would highly recommend this school to any parent.

Our school has a family feel to it. Our students and teachers develop long-lasting, meaningful relationships that give all of a sense of community, pride, and purpose. The diversity reflected in the student body gives all of us an opportunity to practice understanding, compassion and extend our culture to one another. Our students are devoted to making their education worthwhile, spending hours after school studying, researching, and attending after school lectures. Despite budget cuts and a lack of funding for the 09-10 school year, teachers have continued to run extra-curricular activities because of the rich environment it creates among our school community. We are all incredibly fortunate to be a part of MHSHS.

MHSHS is a nurturing environment where students reach their fullest potential by having dedicated and highly motivating teachers. There are a wide variety of clubs, sports, and activities students can experience, as well as student support and extra academic help during and after school. Students are well prepared to attend college and take college courses at Hunter College during their senior year, due to the great training they receive, and the low student- to- teacher ratio. The sense of a supportive school environment is felt as soon as you enter the school halls.
