I've been a teacher since 1988 in westchester. I have to agree with the reviewer that stated that the district IS not keeping up with the times. The neighboring districts do have more to offer. I feel the teachers are doing the best they can with a bare bones curriculum and curriculums that are gimicky. I have seen computer technology integrated into the curriculm where I teach in very rich and meaningful ways. This isn't happening in this school. Learning just doesn't seem to come alive here. Except for maybe those children in the Alpha program which is for so called gifted children. I say let all the children have exposure to that kind of hands on,project oriented, meaningful rich curriculum, where the kids can actually get excited about learning!
As a daily participant at JGD School, I have several comments on the school. There are also hard working and fair staff members such as Nicholas Assande, Ms. Kolstein, Mr.Tilley, Mr.Puerta and custodian Mr. Danny.
this school standards do not meet my expections or those of neighboring districts. We lack formal instruction in computers and do not offer a second language. I do not believe the school is keeping up with the times.
Great PTA, Loved every teacher my children have had!
The principal is new, so only time will tell. So far she seems to be doing an okay job. Although sometimes you feel as if you are talking to a seasoned politician. Some parents get way too involved, which can be good as well as bad. The teachers are the best that any child could ever expierience. They go above and beyond their job expectations. They not only teach our children but all seem to have a great sense of care and concern for their well-being. All of the teachers I have had expieriences with have a great sense of morale and character. I couldn't ask for a better bunch of people to influence and teach my children!
My daugther is a first grader at the school and so far I am very pleased with the teaching abilitiy and their involvement with the students. The Cultural Arts program that they provide is wonderful, there is something for every grade level. The PTA works very hard to raise funds to allow these wonderful programs and they do without a second thought, because the children are number one! Thanks for all you do Teacher, staff and parents!
