I find that the staff at this school are welcoming, nurturing and go above and beyond to serve the needs of the students. Yes, they desperatly need a remodel and some more space, but I think that only makes their level of care and compassion that much more impressive. Look what they have been able to do with what they've got! I LOVED working there and was sorry to have to move away.

When going to a CSE meeting for a special education student beware. If the needs of your child are simple everything will go smooth. If the needs of your child are more complex, time consuming, and expensive BEWARE!!! Things are not so pleasant and helpful any more. The North Syracuse School District tends to drag its feet not putting the childs needs in affect until they get around to it.

I wish that we had more parents to get involved. We have almost 600 students and only about 75-100 families that 'volunteer'. It makes a difference to the kids when they see family involved. The teachers are AWESOME. They love and care for their students as if they were their own. I have NEVER had a problem with any of them, whether my children had them or not. I like it alot. We do need a remodel though. I don't think it has ever been done, or at least in the last 10 years.

About these ratings

About the tests

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
