There aren't many really dedicated teachers here, but thankful for them nonetheless! I'm personally not in favor of this school's primary focus of state tests over the fun-damentals of an elementary school education. I've seen some really bright kids slipping through the cracks here because of the aggressive go-go-go tempo & teacher boredom. Average schools foster average students!
I love Greater Plains Elementary School because of all the wonderful people there that make my child feel welcome and safe. It has many things to offer to the children and they always are having lots of fun with learning!
Since we moved here to oneonta, our daughter excelled wonderfully and teachers, staff, everyone is so polite and so straight with us.Our daughter was a shy,quiet,to-herself child before now in greater plains is out-spoken,growing in great envoriment in this school... I recommend this school to anyone for their child's present & future plans in life... Thank you for the great work to teachers, staff for helping, your skills for our daughter and other children!
Academic programs o.k. in general. Availability of individual/customized curriculum really depends on which teacher your child has. Administration and some teachers not receptive to requests for advanced level options for exceptional students, but other teachers will 'go the extra mile'. Music, art and phys.ed programs are part of regular curriculum, which is not always the case at elementary schools these days. Acceptable class sizes at present; most if not all below 20 per teacher. Nice 'neighborhood school' environment; faculty and staff get involved in extracurricular activities and try to make fun events available for the students.
