My daughter started her school career in Bklyn schools. Pre-K and kindergarten in a Bed Stuy school. 1st and 2nd grade in a Bushwick school. She struggled and struggled. I asked for her to be evaluated because as she grew she would fall further behind till the point that she might not be able to catch up, but to no avail no help was provided. I even asked for her to be held back in hopes she would finally get it,,, and they had tons of reasons that she shouldnt. So we unexpectedly had to move so I decided to go back to the neighborhood I grew up in and send her to the schools I attended. The BEST decision I've ever made. She started P.S.91 Q. She struggled thru the 3rd grade because now the work is much harder then what she was getting in the other schools. When I met with her teacher I was asked if she was in school for kindergarten and 1st grade because it's as if she wasnt. The skills they learn early on to help them to read and sound out words she didn't have. By mid 3rd grade, I again asked for her to be evaluated. Which she was. 91 was on top of it. Her I.E.P recommended that she should be placed in a mixed class of special ed and general ed. What would happen is her weak areas she would be pulled into a smaller group to help her. She is now in 5th grade and she has improved 150% better. She is still not completely caught up to grade level,,,but she IS NOT FALLING FURTHER BEHIND. POINT BEING,,,P.S.91 is an amazing school. It is everything you want and expect in a school. Educating these kids is their main concern,,,NOT promoting failing kids or not evaluating kids with learning disabilities because they don't want their school to be a failing school YET AGAIN. Her previous school they must have replaced the Principal about 5 times in 5 yrs. I'm extremely happy with P.S. 91 for so many reasons, but most importantly the kids getting the education they so need and deserve. She has changed tremendously since attending this school and I could not be more prouder of her. THANK YOU TO ALL THE TEACHERS, assit. Principal, principal and all involved in our children's school career I thank you. Know that your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated and is making a difference.

Ps91 has always been a great school and has great teachers I have been happy sending both of my children there and I wished it went to 8th grade so my children wouldn't have to leave

I find P.S 91 to be a wonderful school. Most of the teachers are caring, helpful, competent, and knowledgeable. I have a child that graduated this school and the education she received help to equip her for junior high school and the heavy work load that comes with it. I have a younger child attending this school as well and his writing and early reading skills are improving vastly and school has only been in session 2 months. What the school needs is funding for a wider range of programs and more parental involvement. Both of which are issues that are out of the schools hands. ~An Involved parent

I have had nothing but a good experience with this school. I have 1 child that graduated from P.S 91 and have 2 other children that currently attend this school. I have had a few minor issues in the pass, but as soon as I brought it to the attention of the staff I was helped immediately and the issues were solved. Ms. Feliciano the Parent/teacher coordinator is a caring, giving, and wonderful asset to the school and is very knowledgeable on the everything and anything involving this school and the Board of Ed rules & regulations. Ms.Psahos the Assistant Principal stands out as a another excellent and helpful person at this school. The teachers are great with the exception of a handful (but that is like everything else in life). Mrs. Catalano (Principal) has made great changes in this school over the years she has spent here. The PTA is pretty good at getting kids excited about school and trying to get parents involved. Although there might be some work needed in the PTA as far a a shift in staff, I think it is time for a new President. Then maybe there would be more parental involvement. Otherwise A+ for 91.

Many times that I went to pick up my nephew from school, the school needs to work on dismissal, it's chaotic during that time. Plus the classes are overcrowded. my nephew has also mentioned that his teacher does not check his homework, maybe once a week. He's in first grade.

My just graduated from this school. All I can say is that principal, teachers and staff are all amazing people. I'm really sad that my son will no longer attend. My son attended as a special needs student and being in this school he's progressed so much. I feel really safe sending to school every day.

i have to say that i am on edge with this school i have been trying for years to pull my children out of this school, i have had so many problems, between the dirty bathrooms, the teachers that are too mean and apparently are not attentive to the children the way they should be, my 2nd grader is afraid of his teacher she dosen't even check the h.w and he dosent even want to tell her when he has to use the bathroom because she yells. its horrible.

This school is fantastic. I was a student here from kindergarden all the way to grade 5. The teachers are super nice and support and care about their students. It was a great elementary experience.

I agree Don't expect to get any help if your child needs and IEP or is having trouble with schoolwork. You are on your own! My son is in danger of getting left back and no one sounds interested enough to help.

Am very unhappy with the school and especially with the teachers. I have two kids one in first grade and the other one in 5th. My first grader is having a hard time with the writing & reading that every morning he cries because he is frustrated and scare because he can't write or read like the other kids. I asked the school for help but was told is best for him to repeat the grade! He won't be attending that school next year! School is overcrowded.

i have 2 children that attend this school and i must say that i am not pleased at all, my oldest one cries every morning because he dosent want to go to school, he is a special needs student and he is not getting the services that he needs to achieve, i recently attended parent teacher meeting and they plainly told me that they could not do anything to help my son i requested resoursce room, a para, tutoring, any kind of special extra help and they told me the school was not funded for those services so they could not do anything for me. as a result they have my son on a promotion in doubt list on the first marking period, i feel this school is unfair, extremely disorganized, and they just don't pay much attention to most of the children in the school. i am very dissatisfied!

...Cont Dismissal is also chaotic with all second grade classes being let out one door, one class at a time. The teacher that gets to the door first starts passing off kids one by one to parents and good luck trying to get near the door to get your child since all parents are squeezed up near the door waiting for their kids. They need someone regulating dismissal as well/ Ms. Feliciano the parent coordinator is fabulous but she can only be in one place at a time, which is usually with the younger kids during dismissal and arrival. And forget after school and extracurricular activities. There are none!!! There is an after school study for kids who need extra help but even that is only for an extra 30 minutes. I am very unhappy this year and hope with this new principal there will be big changes.

I recently transferred my daughter from another school to this school and it was a huge mistake. I find that this school is sooo disorganized and very overcrowded. this is now the second week of school and I just found out that she has classmates sitting on the rug because there are no more chairs. On the first day of class all the parents were allowed inside the school to line up their children which caused nothing but fear and chaos for all the other children not to mention all the children that were just walking back outside with noone at the door to stop them. Dangerous on sooo many levels.

My daughter recently graduated from this school, and I found the staff to be unhelpful in regards to the school that my daughter would be attending in the fall.As of now, my daughter still doesn't know what school she will be attending in the fall.I loved this school throughout these years but in the end, they just push the kids out of the school, with no regards for preparing them for the future, this left me extremely dissapointed.

I have worked here as a self-contained special education teacher since September 2006. I absolutely adore the children here...all of them. The teachers here are some of the most wonderful people I have ever met in my life, and it has been great to meet people who share the same passion as I do. The teachers really take pride in what they do, and they strive to give their students the best they can. The administrators are extremely helpful and supportive and they too, strive to give their teachers and students everything they need to be successful. Our school has gifted and talented classes, along with top classes. We also have a high population of special needs students that attend either CTT classes or self-contained classes. Although it is said that no one or no where is perfect, I truly feel that this school is darn near close. -Danielle Warner 504

My daughter is in kindergarten and loves chool here. She is excelling rapidly and enjoys all aspects of school. The teachers are excellent and most seem to really care about the kids. Ms. Santoro is one of the best. Ms. Feliciano is the parent liason and is the one to go to with any questions. She is extremely knowlegable about all school related issues and will always go out of her way to be helpful. My daughter has gym, music and art classes and she loves them all. It's very rare for her to come home without having something special to share about her day. This school also has a gifted program and a special needs program. In short, it's a wondeful school that we're lucky to have nearby.

I have one child in Kindergarten and one in 4th grade. I think the school is excellent. My 4th grader excelled on her ELA tests and the teachers are very proficient and helpful. The after school program is great also. Everyone is very helpful and considerate. My Kindergartener is doing excellent in math and reading and I could not ask for more from the staff. Down to dealing with the school nurse I've always felt that my children mattered and were not just a number.

My daughter came from KY to NY in her 2nd grade year. She was a happy child, but she found that there were few teachers that she cared for. There was at that time an Art Teacher that was wonderful with her. I personally had a problem as I found it difficult to discuss things with the teachers, volunteering was not an option, and in general they *In My Opinion* were bogged down by more children then they could work with effectivly.

I used to go to this school from K-5. I'm now in 7th grade. I loved this school. The teachers are caring and loving. I think it's a great school because it has great teachers, great schedules and it's safe and fun here.
