This schools is not what I expected. I'm very disappointed about the student to teacher ratio. My daughter was in a class of 32 students last year and only one teacher and no teacher assistant. The children have no recess which is fundamental for a childs developmental milestone. There are only two aids in the cafeteria for the children and a lot of bullying goes around. Many teachers have no patience with the students and there is a lot of screaming. There is favoritism amoungst some teachers to students and some students believe that their teachers hate them. The DOE should be more on top of schools like this.

I am a very happy parent because this has been my first year and I am very happy with this school and my son grades, he did very well and this school has a lot to offer the kids, we have a very good principal and vice principal. The parent coordinator Mrs Joseph is wonderful she help the parents and give them the information they need. My son kindergarten teacher Mrs. Sylvia Doreste is one of the best teacher, she been there very long and she is great with the kids. The school gives lots of workshop for the parents so there can help they kids improve in there grades. Ps 97 is in a wonderful community which I am very proud off.

I attended P.S. 97 grades 2 - 8 from 1945 - 1952 and have many fond memories, especially of the Forest Park outings in 5th grade. It was feared that I would just wander off if not closely watched, so my favorite girl friend was assigned to hold my hand at all times.

My first child attendent this school back in the late 1990's and I now have 8 year old second graders attending. Ms. Ingram is a very dedicated and involved principal. The Parent/Teacher Coordinator, Mrs. Joseph is amazing and constantly updating us on events and progress. The teachers are not there just for a paycheck, but show personal interest in each of their students. This school has evolved and improved inmensely over the years and has become one of the best schools in the district.

I am the after school dance teacher at P.S. 97. My name Is Deneille Loprete. I own the dancing school in Woodhaven for the past 24 years. I love working at P.S 97. It is one of the best schools I have ever worked for. Ms. Ingram is a devoted principal who cares so deeply for her students ,and families. She is constantly striving for new and exciting ways that enable the students and parents to excel. The parents and students of P.S.97 should be honored to have such a wonderful person like Ms. Ingram as their leader. The entire school should thank Mrs. Josephs every day for all the terrific work she does in your school. I have never seen a Parent Co-ordinator work with such devotion. She is amazing!Everyone that works at 97 is so special. What a place!! Your lucky if your child attends that school.

The school may aparently show that it is on the standards for a regualar education, but when it comes to special programs (12:1), it is not recommendable. The school does not provide the program as it is designed in the IEP. There is too little help for parents with children with disabilities; children do not get counseling, and sometimes, they wait months to receive a mandatory therapy such as the physical therapy. Another issue is the staff and/or teacher of this specific classroom; they often complain that they cannot handle the classroom because of a misclassification of the students. Overall, it is a poor or non-favorable environment for disabled children.

The teachers of P.S. 97 are exceptional. I've had a great experience with the teachers my children have had. They have a passion to teach our children. This is more than a job to them. They give their all to the children who attend P.S. 97. Teachers I commend you on your hard work and your eagerness to teach all the students that go through your classroom doors. Parents get the praise in our parenting skills when our kids do well, but we should also praise our teachers because they are with our kids most of they're growing years. Thank you, to all the Teachers of P.S. 97 Submitted by Lillian Perez, a parent

I have been so happy with Forest Park School. My daughter went to this school since kindergarten and now she is in the ARP program at MS210. My son is now attending Forest Park School, he is in 3rd grade. I have been so lucky with the teachers assigned to them. A teacher's dedication to each child is very important. I want to say that these teaches at PS 97 are dedicated. A proud parent. Mrs. Burgos

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.
