Profile Completeness

ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I am a 7th grade student (2013-2014) and I went for 6th grade as well (2012-2013). I was there for the Hurricane Sandy incident and we all continued to go to school anyways and worked hard as ever and the same goes for teachers and staff. This school is amazing. You will find awesome, helpful, and caring friends here. The teachers are very understanding and fair. They try their best to have their students intrigued with the lesson. If you just do your job as a hardworking student and stay friendly with everyone, you will have a great time here. The teachers and students have a sense a great sense of humor. They all work very hard and push the students to the best they can do and I've learned so much in this school. I couldn't imagine a better middle school.

Scholars Academy is all about their kids. Very competitive academically, willing to work with the students and during Hurricane Sandy which was difficult for everyone staff was very sympathetic and compassionate. Principal is one of the best I've come in contact with.

They need to change the system of learning Spanish in 7th grade. The kids in 8th grade learn more in 2 months than the kids in 7th grade do in a year.

Well. This school isnt the BEST its okay. I was dying to go to this school becuase I only heard good about it. Its not the best decision... If you get bulllied, you also get in trouble for doing whatsoever they think you did which is probably nothing.

I am a graduate of Scholars' Academy HS and I have been going there since 7th grade. This school was amazing and I cherish all of the years I have gone there. My peers were like my family and the faculty were like my guardians. Sure, Scholars has its quirks, but what school doesn't? Scholars' provides a safe environment and the education is wonderful- if taken advantage of. I wish I could still be a part of this school and I know many of the other graduates hope for the same. Thank you Scholars' ! I will never forget the 6 years I spent there, they were the best!

Go online and see this school's true rating. Go to the school website: http://schools.nyc.gov/SchoolPortals/27/Q323/default.htm and click on its statistics page and survey responses. These are anonymous surveys done by parents, teachers, and students. That gives a better idea of a school's true evaluation. There are also other reports that talk of academics. There are a few "angry" sounding reviews on this Great Schools site, which are clearly the same individual with a personal issue. Also check out videos of what takes place in the school online: http://vimeo.com/scholars/albums Judge for yourself or call the school's parent coordinator for a face to face tour.

If your child is being bullied, there is no help whatsoever. The principal, the counselor, the nurse, and the APs will blame your child for what happens to them, if such a situation is to occur. It is rare for people to be bullied in this school, but the 4-5 people that are bullied in each grade have it bad. Most of these people are on the lower end of the intelligence scale, and are bullied for that reason, but there are always one to two (usually only one) student per grade that is bullied for extreme intelligence, and that student will be tortured by the school and the students alike. If your student is extremely gifted, do not send them here, just wait it out in the school that you are in.

This is the wost choice i could've picked for middle school. This school is way overrated. It is a miserable place and full of drama. The kids are mean, so are the teachers and so is the staff. At least i am in 8th grade and am almost ready to leave! Also, the way the teachers teach is confusing and the whole group work thing doesn't work out. This school is full of rules and the staff has no trust for us even tho we are one of the best behaved schools. They don't even let you walk in the hallways without a teacher. Honestly if you want to be miserable then this is the school for you. If you want to enjoy middle school go somewhere else. Take my advice. SAVE YOURSELF!!!

If there were a '0' rating, I would give it to this school. Don't come here. Please, spare yourself the misery. ESPECIALLY if you're smart. Just don't do it. They will torture you, teachers, admins, kids... Let me reiterate: DO NOT come here!! (Not if you want to be sane by the time you leave)

This school is like a military school. They say they treat us like adults but they dont even let us walk in the hallways by ourselves. The teachers are ok but alot them just expect us to know things without even teaching (especially ms cave). i just can not wait to graduate and leave.

Scholars' Academy offers students a stimulating, and safe learning environment. Teachers and staff are attentive to both students' and parents' needs. Academic standards are set very high, and thus offer students the opportunity to challenge themselves and work to their full potential/ability. May very well be the Harvard of public middle schools!

Scholars' Academy is a great middle school and high school. I started this school from 6th grade and I am currently in the 8th grade. The teachers conference alot to keep you up to date on what your strengths and weakness's are and how you can improve. There is alot of extracurricular activities, the parents are very involved in the school and the school safety agents make it very safe at Scholars'.

The teachers are very kind to me and help me where they think Im lacking. Also, they help willingly. Overall, I reccomend this school to children who have a high work ethic and think out a situation thoroughly. Our principal is a great; he helps with clubs and occasionally steps into our group dissucsions. I would highly reccomend this school to young scholars. :)

This school is the best kept secret. I am a graduating 8th grader and couldn't be happier with the education I received. I aced the tachs test making it in to every catholic school I applied to along with the nyc specialized high schools. I am staying at scholars for I know that by doing so I will achieve greatness. Scholars is destined to be the #1 high school around. Nick

This is an update from what I posted last year. The school has greatly improved its communication with parents via frequent e-mail distributions and updates. I still highly rate this school and encourage parents of sixth graders to aim for Scholars' Academy. What it has to offer is unique in the city; I understand it has also caught the eye of the education community as a rising star in the NYC Dept. of Education. That attention has been well earned!

I have two children attending this school and could not be happier. They are each very different types of students and this school has brought out the best in both of them. My oldest will be starting the HS this year and after researching many other possibilities I feel confident that she made the right choice to stay here for HS. The school is challenging, well rounded, creative, safe and nurturing. Also, the administration is very open to listening to the concerns of the parents and I feel that parents are able to participate to help their children be more successful. We are thrilled to be here!

I am a current student and I think our school is great. I actually miss all of my friends and teachers during the summer. Anyone who thinks it's not a great school, either didn't do their work and failed, or just wants to go to a typical school in NYC. I feel safe, don't have to worry about what I wear in the morning to be popular and don't feel bad that my parents can't buy me stuff that rich kids have. I have great friends and I am learning more than most kids in other schools. There aren't any schools like this one in the whole city. Holla' Scholars'!

I am an ex-student and I felt that for an excellerated school, Scholars' Academy fell short. I honestly felt like I wasn't challenged enough which didn't let me truly enjoy what I was learning. Plus, the principal didn't treat us like adults but like children since we had to be escorted to every class like we were in elementary school. Only eigth graders are allowed to walk by themselves. Jewelery and other valubles were constantly confiscated and the extra curricular wasn't at its best. I think that this school needs a complete make over and fix what its doing wrong.

I think the teachers in the Scholars Academy are wonderful and they know how to deal with adolescents. Not every school can do that. The teachers seem to have a passion for what they are doing and are genuinely interested in your child They learn a great deal there, more then the regular middle schools.
