GCCS continues to provide my child with a great education. They use the community as a learning environment and teach in a way that makes my child WANT to learn.

I am thankful for our wonderful school every single day. Dr. Wing and the entire staff believe in these children! Children here preserve their innate love of learning. It is miraculous to witness. Thank goodness for GCCS, Dr. Wing, and NY Regents. An amazing public school!

Daughter: 3rd Son: K Highlights: -teachers who lead by example -consistent use of "therapeutic" language ("I" messages and feeling statements) -respect for everyone earned and expected -a music/arts/drama program, highlighted every Wed in community circle, that will bring tears to your eyes with its excellence -my daughter was offered free after school help with her reading -my son's teachers have worked individually with him and us through his behavioral challenges -once every 12 week exhibition nights which highlight student work -meaningful parent volunteer opportunities -2 years with same teachers is a ++ -3 instructors/30 students per class -10+ field studies offered/year -meaningful, relevant, local history curriculum -I watched my daughter be a docent at the RMSC where she exhibited poise and confidence speaking to guests of the museum (one of the parent visitors commented to me, "How old is she? What school does she go to? I am extremely impressed, and I am a teacher too!") -I feel genuinely welcome each time I step foot in the door -I LOVE THIS SCHOOL!! Criticism: -there should be more schools like GCCS available in the city of Rochester!!

I love Genesee Community Charter School because the hands-on learning techniques are complemented by school design principles that are consistently applied in every classroom and every grade. The dedication of the teachers and staff cannot be matched. The school has contributed greatly to the City of Rochester by direct student involvement in projects such as the rewatering of the canal aqueduct and the planning of ARTWALK 2.

As Grandparents, my husband, Carl, and I were very pleased with the education our granddaughter received at GCCS. She and her sister just spoke to a large congregation for our 50th wedding anniversary and the poise she exhibited came as a direct result of the exposure she received at GCCS.

One the the most amazing schools that makes music, art, and phys. ed. a critical and integral part of the whole chapter of study each semester. My daughter really thrived at GCCS because her ideas or suggestions were taken seriously. Instead of being told 'no it's this way', the teachers were always more than willing to say 'well, let's conduct an experiment, document our observations, and prove your theory right or wrong'. They always treated each child with respect and courtesy. I'm so sad she just graduated. I wish there were another GCCS for middle school.

GCCS creates a very positive environment for learning. Kids are encouraged to express their ideas and are always treated with respect. They are not taught the solution to problems, but taught how to figure out the solution.

My son LOVES going to school each day! The teachers are patient and loving to all the children. The students have an opportunity to see and do many things I cannot provide at home. Not only are they taught about the three R's, but they are also taught how to be good citizens, are taught manners, and learn how to work with others.

When you find a school where the standards are high, the curriculum challenging and the kids still LOVE to go, you've found the perfect school. I have one child already pas through GCCS and one mroe going through now. The both LOVE school.

I love the way this school offers something for every child's learning styles. Also, the educational 'treats' aren't saved for the best and the brightest. All children are exposed to an enriched curriculum and all benefit. GCCS consistently challenges children to go above and beyond their own expectations. They emerge as confidence public speakers as a result of the practice they get sharing their in-depth field studies. They also explore issues with a sophistication many of us parents didn't experience until high school and beyond. Perhaps the best lesson they learn during their GCCS years is that all of us -- at school and in life -- are 'crew' and no one is just a 'passenger.' They take responsibility for their learning.

While kids at other schools are going on one field trip per year, due to budget cuts, kids at GCCS get to go on 10 or so per year - real learning in real locations! Weekly 'community circle' gives students the chance to develop poise while performing in front of their classmates and families. This school does not worry about what kids aren't ready or able to do - it assumes they can do anything!

The arts are an integral part of how students learn concepts. Really cements learning in a whole different way from traditional schools.
