this school is not very nice the good teachers are often mistreated and the staff is very ..."mishapen" and the kids are EATEN ALIVE and i know firsthand.....
My son has an IEP and special needs. I reopened his case as he was seen as quite delayed and possibly in need of a self-contained setting or a paraprofessional. After I tried advocating for a para to the principal, school psychologist and several of his teachers, things went south quickly. It took five weeks for my son to even be evaluated/tested, then I was squeezed in to meet for the IEP at the very last minute, and only given a choice of two dates at the very end of the allowable timeline. I had to ask for an official letter of invite, and the letter indicated no reason for the meeting and was dated incorrectly. Teachers contacting me prior to reopening the case stopped suddenly. Emails went unanswered. To top things off, my son was excluded from a chorus Holiday show due to "behavior" but never did the teacher ever contact me, no phone call, no letter home, NOTHING. I had to call him, and emailed principal and even spoke to school psychologist, NO intervention ensued. The communication is lacking, no pupilpath is available, teachers don't readily have emails either or extensions to be easily contacted. There is a clear need for major improvement in communication!!!
This school is terrible. I sent my son here, because of his friend's parents recommending it. As soon as he went into this school, things took a turn for the worst. His grades were plummeting, he was coming home crying, about how his teachers always yelled at him, and were terrible. I tried to contact the school and they gave me NO support at all whatsoever. I truly do not recommend this school to any person who wants their child to succeed in life. There are basically no trips, teachers have easy favorites, no extra-caricular activies, and my child is just bored, and scared each day he comes to school. He's already come home with bruises on his arms, and I don't think I have any other choice than to pull him out of this school. Please, do NOT send your child to this school.
Beware this school is the pits... my daughter went to this school, everyday she would come home with a complaint about how disrespectful, fresh and nasty the teachers were. For example my daughter is right handed in which it had been broken by another student. Her teacher had the nerve to tell her to use her left hand to take notes. My daughters reply was some lefty can do that but can't. Well this teacher decided to pick on her all year and never gave her a chance. Smh
This school is not one to recommend unless your recommending someone NOT to send their child there. This year for graduation, the students only wore gowns, no cap were included. Its disturbing to see other schools wearing caps and gowns but no I.s 2. I am not sure if this was a disciplinary act but if it was, it was completely out of line. This school has a odd way of dealing with parents as well as the students. They also handle bullying very calmly as if it is not a problem. They are rude and it is impossible to get any answers from them. I am happy that my child will no longer have to deal with this school. The board of education really needs to investigate I.s.2 and get more involved to attempt to make it a better school. The principal needs to get the school together. I never thought i would see the day my daughter would come home complaining about teachers smelling like alcohol and cursing at children. If you do not want to teach and mentor children then clearly you are in the wrong profession.
What can I say about this school? I'm a student here at I.S.2 and I don't really like how all the parents are giving either horrible or wonderful reviews. I honestly think, after 3 years of going here, that this school isn't "the worst school". However, it is not the best school either. Some teachers are nice and keep the class under control. Others don't hesitate to scream and yell for no particular reason. Some just don't care. I can't really *complain*. The learning always depends on the teacher, here at I.S.2. If the teacher knows that students can't handle writing 15 pages worth of notes, they adjust and try to make it comfortable. Although, other teachers just give you more and more notes to write. I've seen teachers not even teach. They spend everyday screaming about how we are never quiet, even though most of the time we are. I can agree with some of the people that say it is complete chaos. Because it is. As a parent, even while you are told by your children what goes on, most of you don't really experience how crazy this school can get. A fight here even got on the news. I wish I could write more but I can't. That's all I can say. Curt Giventer, class 833
GEORGE EBERT. WORST SCHOOL IVE ENCOUNTERED, LOTS OF CHAOS, NO STRUCTURE, GENERAL OFFICE STAFF DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING
The worse school ever, most teachers are screaming on children, they can criticize a child at front of class. Do you know that teachers can do not let your child use a bathroom when they need to? My daughter finished previous school with honor (with 4 nominations), but now she has problem to catch up. I hope board of educational will evaluate teachers and principal from this school because they are not doing anything good for your children; my child is very stress out as she started this school.
After my first child not doing well in this school, i didnt learn my lesson sending my daughter to this school. Its been a total nightmare!! The staff are very rude and the principal was rude as well. With my child being an honor student, this school had a bad affect on my daughters grades. After a wonderful transfer to a new jhs, my daughters grades are back up and im happy as ever. As a parent, i think this is a bad choice of school.
I WAS NOT VERY HAPPY WITH THIS SCHOOL. NOTHING BUT A DISAPPOINTMENT FOR MY SON. NOT ENOUGH REVIEW FOR STATE TESTS WHICH LED TO MY SON AND MANY OTHER CHILDREN GETTING GRADUATION ACTIVITIES TAKEN AWAY AND A TRIP TO SUMMERSCHOOL ALTHOUGH MY CHILD HAD AN 82 AVERAGE. VERY NASTY PRINCIPAL AND VICE PRINCIPAL WHO NEVER HAS ANY TIME FOR PARENTS. SADLY FOR ME I HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE AT THIS SCHOOL. MY ADVICE, FIND ANOTHER ONE WHO CARES.
As a parent of a child in IS 2 the education is great. My child is doing very well and I hope to see him excel into a very good high school from the education he gets from IS2
I think I.S. 2 is a wonderful school. I have one child who graduated with honors last year and another child graduating next year with honors. And Mr Newman the Asst principle is wonderful. Always got his eye on the kids. The teachers are wonderful and Mrs Stallone runs the school just perfect.
Children come in as 6th graders and are given a chance to grow and mature. By the time they leave at the end of 8th grade, they have mastered life skills which will help them throughout their lives. I know this because I have a child who is now in college who is using these skills every day. My 8th grader has grown and matured and is now ready for high school. Thank you I.S. 2.
As a parent of a child in this school, my daughter comes home every day smiling. Teachers built such nice relationships with the children that the children will always remember. The children get a sense of independence and through the teaachers realize the importance of hard work. My child knows she always has someone to turn to in this school if ever in need.
The teachers in the Arts Academy are caring and want the students to do their best. They are dedicated and inspire the students to be strong independent learners.
I love the personalized attention the children get, and how much they can excel. This school offers more after school help for those children who need it.. Is2 also keeps parents very involved, and teachers are easily available..
IS 2 is a GREAT school thanks to the hard working, dedicated Administration, Teachers and Staff. My two children graduated from this school and were well prepared for the challenges of high school. Teachers are accessible to the students at all times and work very hard to make sure that they get a quality education. This school offers a great after school program where students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities.
My child graduated last year from this school and his 3 years there were great!! Teachers were always available and were always watching out for the kids. They new my child on a first name basis which is hard to do in a school with 900 kids, but this showed they cared. He learned how to be independent and how important doing well in school, was his future.
Two of my three children graduated from IS 2 with a great education. They both were well prepared for High School and had a wonderful time at IS 2. My youngest child will be there soon and we are looking forward to a similar experience for her.
The Administration and the Staff are great! With the three different academies it gives the feel of three small schoold in one.
