P.S. 23 is an excellent school with teachers who put forth great effort in educating their students. The faculty and staff are very involved and available to the parents for any questions or concerns. I have sent all three of my children to this school and they have received quality educations. The only "bad" fact is that it doesn't go to the eighth grade because the children don't want to leave.

A truly remarkable school. The teachers and administrators are highly professional and very dedicated. All questions are answered and parents are kept very well informed. The PTA is strong and a very positive influence on the P.S. 23 community. Both of my children have been given a solid foundation upon which they will build their future academic success. My son qualified for Staten Island Technical High School and starts there in the fall. My daughter begins at I.S. 24 in the fall with the same strong foundation, and I expect her to follow her brother to S.I. Tech. There is no doubt in my mind that P.S. 23 is one of the finest schools the N.Y.C.D.O.E. has to offer. J. Schermerhorn

I know my children are safe and they have been thriving since their first day at P.S.23. It is like their home away from home, one big happy family. Friendly, caring teacher's and staff make it possible for children to feel comfortable, safe and happy to be there.

I have 2 children in PS23: 1st grade and Kindergartern. They both have learned so much and enjoy school. It is a safe, clean and caring environment for the children to learn. The teachers are excellent. In addition, the after school programs, fairs and school trips are educational and diverse. It is a public school with a private school feel. I am very happy with my decision to send my children to PS23 in Richmondtown.

I have a 2nd and 3rd grader currently in P.S. 23 & my daughter graduated in June 2010. I have been in the school since 2003 and I absolutely love it. The teachers are great and the staff is wonderful. We have a great Principal and Assistant Principal. I feel they prepare the children for all the challenges that lay ahead and also encourage creativity. I HIGHLY recommend P.S. 23.

I give this school 3 stars because what it has in niceties it lacks character and so do the parents. It is too cliquey. The principal doesn't take back the control from the PTA and the school accepts donations from parents and they are able to hold it over the administration and have classes changed ast will.

My son is in kindergarten at P.S. 23 and he loves it. His teacher is wonderful and you can tell she really loves her job and wants to be there. In the short time he has been in school, he has learned so much. He can pretty much read some books by himself. He read 50 something pages of a Dr. Seus book without any help. I am very pleased with this school.

This school does have that private school feel. As long as you the parent and child fit into the cookie cutter image of acceptable. If you fall outside of thier perfect image your child is dismissed. My son was in ps 23 from K thru half way into 2nd grade. The teacher involment with my son was non existent. She felt it better to stick him in a corner and forget him. The principal did a good job when he coud but he could not be in every classroom. If you fit into their cookier cutter image this school is fantastic

My son will be graduating this year and while we've had some changes throughout the 6 years he's been a student, for the most part I have nothing but praise for PS 23. As a parent who was educated in catholic schools for my entire education, I was worried about sending my child to a public school, however, PS 23 has the feel of a private school because of its relatively small size. With less than 600 students, PS 23 is truly a family atmosphere. The teachers are wonderful caring people. My only complaint is that this school year brought budget constraints that are cheating our children out of a room full of brand new computer equipment. We are however, fortunate enough to have a 3-5th Grade band, which certainly is a huge plus

This school has the academic quality of a private school without the cost. We were worried about our son s ability to recognize numbers and letters and in 4 months at PS 23 he is now reading and counting to 100. The school has a great array of extracurricular activities that our son loves and keeps him motivated for attending school. He has become quite the artist lately. All of the parents are very involved and concerned with their children s education. PS 23 is a excellent school that I highly recommend.

My daughter is in a special education Kindergarten class at PS 23. The teachers, staff, nurse and principal are all top notch. The school is organized, professional and has great programs for the kids. They solve problems if there are any and make sure you are involved. We are having a great experience thus far at PS 23. I highly recommend the school having come from another public school on Staten Island that did not have its act together.
