Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I am fellow graduate of this school so is my mother, and brother. I have the upmost respect for the staff and volunteers who take out of thier time to teach. They have done an outstanding job fusing the teachings of education with the The Holy Bible. I would not think twice about sending my children to this school. Where it's safe, has good morals and most of all bible based faith.

This school is a ministry of the Living Word Church, therefore, it is run by the church and preaches Christ above academics. The school prepares kids at a foundational level academically and is not recognized by many above average colleges and universities in NYState since LWA selects who can profile their school. This can be a big problem if your child is looking to attend one of these schools. There is no performance review for any teacher at LWA leading to sub-par knowledge transfer in some core courses. It is my experience, having had 2 children graduate from LWA, that parents are discouraged from engaging with teachers where these problems exist. There are no AP classes offered, however, students are encouraged to study on there own for the tests. Most obtain 3 or lower on the tests. The sports offered at LWA excel, since the coaches put sports above academics. Tuition is very reasonable if you attend the Living Word Church. Finally, to make a decision on sending your child to this school, you should first attend the Living Word Church to several times to see if you like what you hear coming from the pulpit. The church leaders run the school, not the principal.

I am an alumni of Living Word Academy (attended K-12) and now volunteer there and have three children attending. LWA teaches the whole Word of God and perhaps that is why some people have a difficult experience, because they do not want to accept the whole Word of God or be held accountable. The school opens every day because of the miracle of the Holy Spirit working in each staff member, many of which are volunteers and come because they truly love and want to serve their Savior and care for the spiritual welfare of the children. So if you're interested in Living Word, please don't let those negative comments scare you off. Come and see for yourself! I received an excellent education, was well prepared for college, but most importantly have a firm foundation for life in the Truth of God that was brought to me through the words and examples found at Living Word. I am so thankful for the wonderful environment I grew up in. I continue to have lifelong friendships with fellow alumni and the staff and pastors that taught us.

I have just read the reviews for Living Word Academy. Some comments were excellent, some quite negative. Before making a decision about this school, I would encourage you to visit it first. Spend some time there and observe what is going on. Then seek the Lord in prayer and ask Him to direct you to the school He wants your children to be in. And when He answers, obey His voice. Don't let the opinions of others influence you. The Lord has a plan for your child's education. It's up to you to find out what that plan is. I pray you hear His voice.

I discourage any parent to enroll their child in this school. It is dictating, manipulating, and twisted. They encourage isolation with any person that has left and think they are better than everyone else. Their rules are outrageous. They ruin lives and separate families, their teachings are far beyond anything realistic. Keep your family away from Living Word.

Great teachers - very personable. However staff very dictating on life style, encourages social isolation, and judgmental. Encourage you to turn your back on non-member family.

As a former student, I would discourage a christian parent from sending their children to Living Word. The associated church is neck deep in legalism and church oppression, and has a bad reputation in the local church community. Many students leave LWA thinking that their Christian image and behavior are all that matters in their walk with Christ, and consequently they don't have much of a spiritual identity when they get to college. I would encourage you to look elsewhere.

All four of my children graduated from this Shcool. They learned good Christian doctrine and all excelled academically. It is a safe environment run by caring people.

I thank God for Living Word Academy. The teachers and staff are spirit filled and sincerely want the best for the children in the Lord. I graduated from the Academy, and my 5 children went there as well. Some enjoyed it more than others, but I believe that all learned how to have a closer relationship with the Lord, and academically they were prepared for college.

Excellent School, both spiritually and educationally. Bible based teaching, promoting true Christianity, selflessness, and holiness. My education here put me many levels above my peers in college. I graduated at the top of my class in college and attended a top rated graduate program because of the HARD WORK and knowledge instilled in me at Living Word. I strongly encourage you to consider sending your children here.

Attended the Academy from Pre-K to 12th grade - I graduated top of my class! BUT found out when I got into college that I barely had a 9th grade education! Please if you care at all about your kids, don't send them here!!!

Living Word Academy is absolutely a solid school, well-grounded in the Lord Jesus Christ, that teaches sound doctrine to their students as well as great academics. If you have any doubts, they always welcome a student to sit in classes for a day to see what its like. The staff are all sincere, honest, wise and intelligent and firmly stand up for the Word of God. Not to mention over 75% of them are volunteers. A true family.

LWA is a safe haven for born-again followers of Christ. The children are taught in both academics and spiritual matters. The teachers and volunteers are all Bible believing Christians and do nothing but love the kids. It's inexpensive and every child is cared for as if they were the teacher's own because they consider themselves part of the family of Christ. I would definitely recommend this school.

I love the Lord Jesus with all my heart, but Do NOT send your kids HERE, unless you want them to be scarred for life, and to be turned off to christianity. Psychologically the environment is terrible and will only harm your child in the future. The church thinks they are being persecuted for christ because of the negative feedback they get about bieng a cult, but really the environment is very controlling. If you want your child to grow up healthy, mind body soul..for Jesus. Do not send your child here!

There are over 100 volunteers per week at the school. I would say that is exceptional parental involvement. The sporting events are filled with many parents and former students who comprise a great majority of the fans at these events. The teachers are devoted to the children to bring them the finest education possible. It is not just a job. There is however a greater commitment from the staff and that is to bring each student to a place of greater devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ. My observation for the last 30 years is that as a result of this very fact. The Spirit of the Living God has the opportunity to move on the children. Filling them with his Spirit and directing their lives. How many schools in this country will interrupt the class schedule so the students can pray and seek the Lord?

Attending Living Word Academy has been a wonderful experience in my life. I am in my 11th grade year and I love it. Yes being a teen is hard and its sometimes hard to fit in with people, but without the gangs, drugs, fights it really makes me thankful for the place I am in. The teachers are wonderful and kind. Yes they correct us but its out of love. I am in my second year of varsity volley ball and I am having a blast. Next year as a senior I will help lead the team, I can't wait. Yes like every teenager I have gone through trials with kids in the school but God brings me through them and its nice not haveing to deal with fighting to be accepted and deal with bullies. I thank God for all the people who have made LWA possible.

This LWA is a miracle, the Spirit of God is present in this place. The faculty (Holy Spirit filled) provide what is necessary to aid in the survival of the next generation in these dark times. Priorities are first...Worship of Our Lord Jesus Christ, study of the Word of God come first. Academically preparing my children for higher education. It is the Lord Jesus Christ that enables all this to come to pass year after year.

I attended this school from Pre-K through 12th grade. This school provided me with both a solid Christian foundation, and a strong academic knowledge. I went on to college and did very well, largely due to the top-notch teaching the Academy provides.

My three children began attending LWA four years ago. They were welcomed by their new classmates and teachers as well. They immediately felt at home. My oldest son, felt a calling to be there, comfortable with the children, and said they were respectful of each other and the teachers. Four years later, my children have grown not only academically, they are challenged in their daily learning, but also in their walk with the Lord.

My son began attending LWA on November 2005. He came from a public school where he was feeling 'out of place.' He felt as if 'his life at home and school were not the same. That no one knew who he really was.' LWA's caring christian environment has transformed him into a confident happy boy in a matter of weeks. The academic and social bar are much higher. However he seems to work much better within this more structured perimeter. He has developed friendships with children who are likeminded , friendships I hope last a lifetime. I can't say enough about our experience at LWA.

I have had 4 students in the Academy and while it did cost a lot the education they received was worth every penny. All have gone on to higher education and have done well in admission tests. As with all schools some teachers are great others only fair, but parental involvement is accepted, if not encouraged. The concern of all students is taken into consideration, not just the brightest. I am very greatful for having had the opportunity to send my children to the academy. It was worth all the overtime and weekends I had to work.
