Teacher effectiveness: Somewhat effective

I feel like some teachers would explain things easier and give us easy ways to remember things, while others would just read out of a textbook and that would be it, and we would have to figure it out by ourselves, most of the time having to Google what we learn to figure it out.

Amount of homework: Just right

We were given a good amount of homework, but sometimes I really didn't understand how to do it, and the teacher wouldn't go over it with us in class the next day.

It depends on the teacher. Some teachers would help the students and make sure that they succeed, and others wouldn't even bother helping the students who needed help, and would let them fail.

It really depends on if your teacher likes you. If a teacher likes you, they will always make sure you are happy and make sure you are enjoying school. If your teacher does not like you or even have any opinion on you, your feelings will be put to the side and never address it.

As a student, I don't believe that some kids were treated fairly. Some teachers either love or hate you, and sometimes it's for no reason at all. If a teacher favors you, they will always put you first in their priorities before all the other students.

Respect???? I don't think that the teachers can even define that word so don't expect the students to learn respect at Harris Road.

The principal could care less about my child. He acted like I was wasting his time every time I spoke with him. My child struggled to go to school everyday because of the incessant bullying. It broke my heart, but I didn't have the financial means to send him to a private school.

There is an obvious favoritism among the students from the teachers and admin. They rule the school and are rarely punished for outrageous behavior.

My review was removed for some odd reason so here we go again...... Harris Road is run by an unprofessional administration who seems more concerned with winning bus races than their students. The principal had no professionalism and lacks emotion or empathy for the plight of some of the victims of bullying in his school. I've never seen kids that get away with everything. There are no consequences to the actions of outright cruel bullying. My son was physically assaulted and verbally abused constantly and nothing was done. God bless any child that has to go to Harris Road.

My child started going to Harris Road Middle School in 2012. There are a few really great teachers, but more than half of them do not care about the bullying and care more about the test scores. There's constant drama and fights. The children are not in a safe, stable environment. Kids are getting caught with marijuana in lockers, lots of racism, sexism, etc. throughout the school simply because no one watches them. There has been more than enough fights..The school has turned into a straight up mess. The only person we can blame is the principals. They have suspended kids for chewing gum yet they ignore the children who suffer emotionally and physically. This school needs to be investigated.

It would be helpful if the homework given was explained, or even covered at all during class. If the kids are having to teach themselves everything at home, what are they really doing at school?

The only persistence this school teaches is that you have to persistently attend. Once the kids show up, the school gets paid, and after the first bell rings the staff just switch off until it's time to go home. Maybe the teachers aren't getting paid very well, and that might be true, but don't they realize that they are there to make a difference in a child's life?

HA! Not at all. Respect is not taught at Harris Road, not even as a vocabulary word. It only exists there in dictionaries that sit unused on teacher's shelves or in the library.

No one at this school seems to care, which means none of the students do either. Garbage in = garbage out.

Neither the staff or the students are respectful, and while the kids attend this school, their behaviors learned at school are only coming out stronger at home. Because of all of the drugs being sold at this school, a lot of the kids now think it's cool, because no one there is telling them different, or even trying to stop those activities.

Students are actually devolving by being exposed to teachers at this school. School hours are there for the school to get money, and so the staff can be paid. The only thing the kids learn is from one another, and the quality of this environment can only be described as toxic.

There are parts of Harris Road that are very good. My daughter has had some very good teachers at this school who care about their students and consequently she has been very successful in school. I feel like she is getting a good education. However, the administration of the school-specifically both the principal and the assistant principal are TERRIBLE. Trying to address concerns with them in a constructive way has no effect. They are rude, condescending and dismissive. If you look at the reviews of the school over the past years, you'll clearly see that the current administration needs to be removed and replaced with leaders who care about the students, parents and environment of the school.

Harris Road is a disappointment..... The kids are disrespectful of the teachers and each other. Most kids don't even know who their principal is. My child has learned very little this year. Since the beginning of the school year, he has only been given homophone tests and 1 vocab test in ELA. His teacher doesn't go over the words to prepare for the tests. The kids are not punished for inappropriate behaviors, and teachers seem oblivious to the fact that kids are being constantly bullied. There are clear "favorites" who seem to get away with anything. The principal doesn't even pretend to care when you go to him with an issue. The school has been so bad that we are moving out of district to send our kids to a new school next year.

Our kids are now coming home driveling a bunch of air-headed babble, constantly spewing words like "bae", "cray-cray", and such. Their teachers could teach them what "bae" means in another language (which isn't school appropriate information), but they won't lift a finger to help students improve in English or simple math. The students we've met don't seem to know as much as other kids from nearby middle schools, including the Title I schools in Mecklenburg just over the county line. It's like the school would rather serve to be a communal ground where kids can hang out and teachers get paid to do little more than be present. The kids come home saying they learned very little, and their grades reflect that.

Before the current principal was assigned to Harris Road this "was" a great school but...it has changed drastically. As a parent I have experienced the same unprofessional conduct, rolling eyes & ZERO concern for my child as I read in other reviews from parents in regard to the current principal's demeanor . If the county sincerely has the best interest of the children at heart they need to assign another principal to the school who can maintain a professional attitude and manage this school productively, proactively and professionally and assign a principal who actually cares for the children. As what the students deserve and the parents need to see a tremendous change in.

My son attends this school and we are all very pleased. We moved here from the Atlanta area this past Summer. Great communication and my son is thriving. He loves his 7th grade teachers. We picked Cabarrus County to live because of their excellent schools and no regrets.

Worst experience I've ever had with a school! Bullies run the school. Teachers do very little teaching. We spend hours on homework because my child comes home without ever being taught. Many other parents have voiced the same concern when it comes to their children as well. The principals are extremely unprofessional and have ZERO concern for my child. I have spoken to several of them and have been shocked at their lack of professionalism. They don't return phone calls, they roll their eyes at you when your speaking, and they make it obvious that they simple don't care about your child. If you can, choose to go to another school. Unless your child is a bully, this isn't the place for you!

I just recently graduated Harris Road Middle School, and I loved it. All three years at HRMS were exceptionally well!! The teachers and staff are wonderful! They are caring and understanding. I never had a problem talking to one of the teachers, I was always comfortable. The classes are great as well!! I learned a lot from all of my teachers, and was able to explore things I never knew were possible!! And the school spirit is absolutely outstanding! I'll never forget this school. GO PATRIOTS! (:

Life at Harris Road was very constructive. I made all A's at Harris Road. The teachers are the best. When I started going to JN Fries my grades went down. For no reason at all execpt this crazy teacher. Everybody was failing her class. I didnt fail because of the grades I made at Harris Road. I love Harris Road.! :) Lets go Patriots.!

I am very pleased with this school. My child is a 6th grader at this school and he likes it as well. He has great teachers and the childrens good behavior was recently rewarded with a trip to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid and then CiCi's Pizza for lunch...wish I had gotten such great field trips/rewards when I was in school! The communication is great and I receive emails from one of the teachers on his team informing parents of upcoming tests, events, etc. This is a great Middle School with great teachers!

Harris Road Middle School is a terrible school!!! Be ware of this school!! This is my daughters last year there, THANK God!! They hate it there. 8th grade was the worse. Bullies run that school and the principal does nothing about it! I've written emails to them, talked to them on the phone, trying to get them to take actions against bullies. The principal states that he has "zero tolerance" against bullies but only talks to the bullies and let them roam the hallways. The superintendent does not return my emails. We have our house on the market and are trying to move to another county. My kids used to love school until they stepped into Harris Road Middle School.

The teachers are great. If you dont understand something they willl always break it down and make sure that you understand what you are learning. My teacher has a great motto ' I hear, I forget. I see, I remember. I do, I understand.' We always live by that in class. I love this school and cannot think about ever having to go to another school.

This is an amazing school and I can't say enough about the staff. My daughter just completed her 6th grade year and she loved it. The teacher / parent communication is excellent. We are moving and I dread taking her out of this school. If your picking out middle schools in Cabarrus County this one should be #1 on your list!!

I really didn't like this school at all when i attended it. If a teacher doesn't like you they will send you to ISS, even if they do not have a valid reason. The Principals do not care at all about the students and it feels more like a jail than a school. Personally i HATED the the 3 years i spent at this school.

The school is crowded, but what school isn't? The students are separated per grade, ie each grade has a separate hall/wing which only that grade should enter. The purpose of this is to keep the older students from bullying the younger, and it works great in the transition from elementary school to middle school. HRMS focuses on great academics, socializing is for after school and clubs. The goal of the teachers here is to prepare the students to excel in high school and beyond. There are several dances and other social events scheduled for only those students with passing grades and good behavior. This is a great way to reward those students who work hard, and provides a safe place and time for them to socialize with friends.

Too crowded and too rigid. My son often complains that he doesn't get any time to talk to his friends, can't walk in certain hallways. Last year being the first year for my son, dispite his good grades had write ups for absurd infringements just about every week. I first thought my son was being obnoxious until I saw the number of kids that go to Satarday detention.

In moving from Rowan County to Cabarrus County two years ago, I have found that the schools here push the children more academically then Rowan County. I also find the teachers more adept to working with me and my child. I keep constant email contact with my child's teachers, so that I can keep up on what she is and is not doing in school. This school as well as Cox Mill Elementary have impressed me with the attention that they have given my daughter.

This schools standards do not seem very high compared to where we came from in OH. My sixth grade son has to cut and paste pictures of his friends, family, country, and neighborhood for a project this week. That's a preschool assignment if I ever saw one! There seems to be a lot of riff raff at this school also. We will deinitely be sending the kids to a private school next year for both social and academic reasons!

This is a wonderful school. We moved from out of state last summer and had no idea what to expect. The staff is helpful and conscientious and students are well challenged. My daughter says to add that they have good food! The environment is a very positive one that promotes good behavior and academic success.
