Academics and sports play a big part of the life on campus at this wonderful place. Students are valued and engaged in meaningful learning. It is a great, hometown environment with a old fashioned feel.

This is a very small school with mostly excellent teachers. The biggest problem with this school is they put athletics above EVERYTHING! Sports are good but they have a tendency to put athletic students above everyone else. It seems to be all about winning.

I just graduated from this school this past June, and I can honestly say that this school is AWESOME! The teachers really care, they are the best teachers anywhere. Make sure you take physics with Gilgen, the Hayesville High School experience isn't complete without Gilgens flipping awesome classes. Mrs. Leek is awesome too!

I'm an alum. Scholastics are pretty decent -- as the school often has the luxury of acting like a private school. But I never liked the prevalence of religion and closed-mindedness. In other words, I had a good education, but was elated to get out of there.

We have moved several times and have had our children in several schools in North Carolina and Georgia. The Clay County school system has, without a doubt, been the best school system of all systems they have been in. We have been very pleased with its discipline policy, academics, teachers, and guidance counselors, in addition to all extracurricular activities. Our son, in particular, was labeled as needing an IEP in other schools, but through a good balance of encouragement and strict discipline, will begin taking honors classes next year. This is definitely an answer to prayer and I give lots of credit to the Clay County school system.
