My fiance, daughter and I moved to the area in December 2010. My daughter started in Kindergarted since her birthday was just past the cut off. Her teacher did a GREAT job of helping her adjust to the move and new environment. After a few weeks and some testing, she was moved to first grade. Again, her teacher helped her in every way. We were always welcome to watch or participate and we were kept informed of everything going on when we couldn't. The teachers and staff helped what was a difficult situation become a great experience for my daughter. VERY HAPPY!!!!
2 of my children attended Florence this year after moving from another Guilford county school. Both of their teachers were attentive to their needs pushing them to excel. The AG program which is lead by an enthusiastic teacher has been great in pushing my 3rd grader to advance in math and reading. Communication was very good between teacher and parent. We love the extra things offered here such as drama, the clownettes, and rowdy ropers! I know the teachers truly care and want the kids to succeed. Our move to this school was a great decision!
We just moved to North Carolina and my son started kindergarten at Florence Elementary. We were worried that the new school, change of environment, and education systems would effect his (and our) ability to adapt. Fortunately his teachers (Ms. Cobb and Ms. Miller) have been great. They communicate everyday on his progress and we can tell that he enjoys his class because he talks about all of the activities they are doing each week. The thing I like the best is the reward system at the end of the week where students can pick from the treasure chest if they have exhibited good behavior all week. This positive re-enforcement is very effective and lets our children know that they get attention for doing good things not just when they don't. We are looking forward to 1st grade next year. I hope the school implements foreign language studies into the program
As a parent of a kindergarten student I was very pleased with this school. My son made the transition smoothly. Faculty and staff kept me up to date with all events and it was quite easy setting up meeting times with my son's teacher. The ACES After School Program is top notch. No complaints.
I'm not a big fan of the school after hearing sarcastic comments of the administration, teachers and parents. The way they talk to people is very inappropriate.
My children have been at Florence for the past three years and have had nothing less than a great experience. The staff there are awesome, the teachers go above and beyond to make sure the students are taken care of and that they have all the tools they need to succeed. The office staff are top notch, they have the best car rider pick up process I have ever seen. The other schools in the county could definitely benefit from adopting the same process.
Our daughter has been at Florence for 2 years now and we have had nothing but good experiences there. I have been very pleased with every aspect.
My daughter is currently in the first grade at Florence. Her kindergarten teachers (Mrs. Ketner & Mrs. Russell) set the expectations high and my daughter, I believe, exceeded them. They more than prepared her for the challenges to come. This year she was fortunate enough to, once again, have two motivated and encouraging educators (Mrs. Connely & Mrs. Barr). My overall experience has been a positive and pleasing. If you have the opportunity to reside in Guilford County it would be well worth your while to search for a home in the Florence District.
I would like to take this oportunity to say that my children [who were once all enrolled in Florence Elem.]had some of the best lesrning years of their lives thanks to the staff at Florence and the Guilford County School District. I have since enrolled them in another district in the state and find myself constantly remembering and missing the type of structure and involvement that we once enjoyed while we lived in the Guilford County School District. I feel that it is one of the best in the nation, and also that Florence is one of the top schools to enroll your children in...Keep up the fabulous work!
