Our child just finished the fifth grade at St. Mary's. Both my husband and I were very disappointed with the curriculum and the teaching. The children were not challenged. We expected excellence in education, but instead received less than average. I would not recommend this school.
Our decision to send our son to St. Mary was a tough one - so many choices, so many friends in different schools, etc... and we have been thrilled so far. We'll be starting our 3rd year at SMS and look forward to watching our son continue to flourish both academically and socially. St. Mary's is an older school and doesn't 'shine' from the outside like some of the others but be careful not to judge a book by its cover!
I have had my son in St. Mary's for 2 years and I am so happy that we made the decision to send him there. The teachers are amazing and the curriculum is challenging, but the teachers are creative in how they present it. The Suzuki Violin program is wonderful as well. The school staff is kind and helpful and there are a lot of opportunities to get involved in the school. The bldgs may not be as swanky as some of the newer schools in WIlmington, but this school is amazing in every other respect. For being a private school, there is none of the snobbiness that we've found elswhere. The school emphasizes community service and love and respect for other cultures. All in all, our son is so happy and sending him to St. Mary has been the best decision we could have ever made!
Cannot say enough good things about St. Marys. Great teachers! Great School! My kids love being there! Wonderful nurturing environment!
I am currently attending St. Mary school and I love it. I am going into eighth grade. I have been going to this school since first grade. The teachers are great and every day I learn something new. It would be great if there was 9-12 grade school but sonce there isnt I am grateful for what i already have!
My children have been a part of this School for the past 13 years and I am so blessed to be a part of this growing family . The Teachers at St. Mary have been here for years and that speaks volumes when it comes to commitment and dedication. These are some of the most inspiring people you will ever meet. My oldest daughter, started there in Kindergarten and will graduate next year from New Hanover High School with honors. This school gave her the necessary building blocks to glide through High School and onto College. Last year, I was witness to the other side of the learning spectrum, when my youngest was diagnosed with A.D.D. St. Mary's assisted me in all the right directions, and Now my youngest, with the dedication of her teachers and care of her Doctor, is having the best year of her life. I love this School.
We are so pleased with our son's education at St Mary School. The teachers are dedicated professionals who have been at this school for many years. The Suzuki violin program is amazing, as is the entire music program. After school care is very affordable. Class sizes are small. Morality and ethics are stressed, and of course religious instruction. The campus is in historic Wilmington and many class trips are within walking distance of the school. If only they had grades 9-12 we would be so pleased! We love St Mary School.
