The Batavia school district is small which makes it easy for students to participate in sports, extracurricular activities and any acedemic endeavors they wish to become involved in. BMS is an excellent place for my children to attend.
This school is not a truly excellent school. They seem to want money for better things, but do not give the students and community a quality poduct. They are stuck in the "Old School" way of doing business and care about the gifted students, but forget the rest. I will not send my children to this school, I using open enrollment to attend a nearby district which is more friendly, on target with standards, and truly believes that all children can learn.
Batavia Middle School is an excellent school. There is a strong gifted program where the students stay with the same class and group of teachers from 5-8 grade. Best of all, the Batavia school district is small which makes it easy for students to participate in sports, extracurricular activities and any acedemic endeavors they wish to become involved in.
I agree, in most regards, with what the parent posted 7/16/08, especially: poor communications between school, teachers and parents. It seems that we never know what's going on until after the fact. We've been in the district for over 4 years and we still feel unwelcome and left out.
I was very disappointed with this school. Before moving to Batavia I did some research on their test scores and felt it would be a good school for my child when we moved from Lexington, KY. After one year of attending this school we are moving again to find a better one. The lack of leadership, poor teaching methods, bully issues and poor communications between school, teachers and parents made it a very difficult year for my child and myself. There is no discipline for the teachers or students when they get out of line. Found it to be a very unfriendly environment. I volunteered to be an active parent and attended PTA meetings and was made to feel unwelcome each time I showed up. Having 5th thru 8th graders in one small school is not working well for them.
This is an awesome school and an awesome school district. Excellent after school cirriculum and sports/fine arts program!
