I would agree that there is a huge emphasis on sports, but what small/country school is not. What is concerning is the lack of interest in the students and education. I attended and graduated from Elmwood with honors. I was in the band, I played sports, and I was liked by all. Even with all that said, I would still advise all parents to send there children elsewhere. The teachers, principal, dean, and office staff, all play favorites. People who should be leading by example and giving all students an equal opportunity, label students and treat them accordingly. If your child gets labeled as a good student, then they will get more attention from an educational standpoint. If your child gets labeled as a bad student/trouble-maker (whether or not it is accurate), they will be singled out in class, and will be disciplined unfairly for every slip up. Please choose another school for your children. I have seen too many average students fall through the cracks, and too many students skate through with the "right last name" or the needed athletic ability.

Not impressed with the academics department, there is entirely too much emphasis on sports when the focus should be on education.

Academics are below standard. Too much extracurricular stuff and too little emphasis on schooling. Parents are rarely involved.

the academic levels at this school is very good. the music section is improving and their madrigal dinner was great. parent involvement is also very common there. it is also a beautiful school building. they are also very good athlets. as a former student, i loved it there. everyone was friendly and it was just a great school.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Ohio used the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) to test students in grade 10 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. State averages displayed on public school profiles include public schools only. State averages displayed on private school profiles include private schools only. The OGT is a high school graduation requirement for public schools and chartered private schools. The OGT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of Ohio. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

About the tests

Ohio uses the Performance Index to provide an overall indication of how well students perform on its standardized tests each year. The Performance Index scores are based upon how well each student does on all tested subjects in grades 3 through 8 and 10. Schools and districts earn anywhere from 1.2 points for each student scoring at the advanced level to zero points for each untested student. The Performance Index ranges between 0 and 120, with 100 as the statewide goal for all students.

About the tests

In 2010-2011, the Ohio Department of Education used the Value-Added Measure to show how much growth students made on the Ohio Achievement Test since the last school year. The state expects that student test scores will show an average year's worth of growth compared to test scores from the previous year. Ohio's Value-Added Measure is not the same as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), a federal measure which uses different criteria.
