Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I used to go to John Marshall. I graduated back in 2011, and I have to say it was good school. Sure you had your fights, bullies, and other distractions; but you also have your own mind. Just because of these distractions, it shouldn't push you away from graduating. Bad testing? That's because of the students, they refuse to pay attention. Fights everyday? No, not everyday, more like every other week. But I could be wrong, because I didn't draw myself to that. Every school has fights because yet again, students refuse to take it seriously. If you have an IEP, like a family member of mine did and other students I noticed, were taken seriously. Most of them graduated with my class. A student with an IEP also had perfect attendance. It's not the school, it's the people who refuse to put their time and effort into something that could be amazing. I love this school, I love the teachers still AND my high school experience.

I took a field trip to John Marshall & it was absolutely horrible. During 8th grade they used John Marshall as a school that we should all look forward to going to, but I felt otherwise. The students were extremely loud, rude, didn't care about social cues, they roughhoused in the hallways & the bathrooms were downright disgusting. It was obvious that the teachers were trying very hard to control their class, but many of the students didn't listen. There were some good students that I saw that were obviously trying to take something out of their education at JM, but were hindered by the other students. There was also a fight that broke out in the hallway while we were visiting - and from talking to other students it seems to be a daily occurrence that resulted in countless suspensions. I have many friends who attend JM & are trying to get out of there to attend other city wide draw schools(like Jane Adams or John Hay). I'd advise everyone who is zoned to JM and who is serious about their academics to seek out other opportunities at other schools. If you are concerned about transportation many schools will give you RTA/BUS vouchers. The school also does poorly on testing.

Greatest school in the city of Cleveland, hands down. Best academic program in the state and top of the line athletics. It doesn't get any better than John Marshall High School. Whoot Whoot. - JT

I had graduated from JMH back in 2007. It was an ok school, if you were all about hanging with your friends. Thats one of the only reasons why i really enjoyed going to that school, was for my friends. I had some really good teachers, mostly my english ones, but in other subjects i had teachers who really didnt care. They gave us "B's" just for showing up and trying, even if we got the answer completely wrong. Im not saying it's a terrible school, because alot of teachers really did try, but i also had those select few who really could careless.

I am currently attending John Marshall and i am a sophmore. I started my high school experience here and im looking forward to ending it here too. Marshall gets labeled as the 'violent' or 'school only bad kids goes to', I thought the same till I actually came and seen how people were with each other. Marshall deserves more credit than its being given.! I LOVE this school, but it really needs to get remodeled or maybe even start a new building.

I am a grandparent (Class of 1959). Friends and I visited the school 9/11/09. The school is very clean, the kids are very respectful and very well dressed. The teachers were also very helpful and explained where classrooms were. It was a great experience! I have 2 grandchildren who graduated from Marshall (one in 2005, a Marine with two tours in Iraq and one in 2007 -- she is thinking about going to TRI C.) The third grandchild will graduate in 2010 and is a vital part of the basketball team. All three had very good GPA's so the teaching is still good. It is a school to be proud of.

I went to that school from 2005-2009 and from everythign I heard about it it wasn't what I thought it would be. JMH does have good teachers and a good majority of the students are nice and respectful. At least from what I seen and heard.

i currently attend this school and i must say that this school deserves more credit than its given. its academic standards have very high expectancies of the students and im recieving an excellent education. there are no fights and if one starts it is dealt with immediately. students are required to get to class on time and be where they should be at all times. there is such an amount of school spirit as well. i love this school and no one could tell me any different.

Students are expected to stay in dress code, get to class on time, do our work; the regular. But they get no encouragement. The only thing the principal wants is to get the students dressed. She doesn't care about the quality of education. I attended a nearby suburban school and the day is a lot better. We had near monthly school celebrations in the gym. There were so many better aspects. The teachers at JMHS are depressing, not encouraging and are their for the money. It is an easy job seeing as most teachers old and sit in their desks all day long. They take a month to grade a paper. Then they throw the, I have 200 students card at you. Well you get paid for those 200 students so do the work.

I think that most of the teachers in this school are very disrespectful to the students. Most of the teachers seem as if they were very unhappy with their job and show it by being very unhappy and disrespectful to the students. How do they expect the students to respect them if the adults in the school don't give them respect or give them credibility, always doubting and judging every student the same way? I am very disappointed with the treatment given to the students starting with the principal.

I think JMHS is a decent school considering how bad it could be. I am a senior attending at the moment and I've enjoyed the year I've spended being a 'Lawyer'.

The school is one of the better ones in cleveland but the principal is not real respected by teachers and students alike..She spends more time yelling at teachers because a student has a shirt not tucked in, and she does it in front of the students thereby negating any authority the teacher had...But the teachers are great and i was told one of the english teachers is actually a published author!

John Marshall is a great school. Most of the feedback is from outsiders. The students are highly motivated and come from an array of different backgrounds. It's a place where everyone feels welcome. The Principal sets a positive tone and there are many teachers and parents who really care about the kids! Sure there's a fight or suspension from time to time, but where isn't there? Instead of being judgemental, come visit our school.

This school is by far the worst school I've ever attended. The classrooms are falling apart, recently there are fights, the principal is going out of her mind with the suspensions. If you're in the least bit out of dress code, you get a 5 day suspension now. I, in all honesty, think that this is outrageous. The cafeterias are rarely ever clean, half of the teachers there could care less about their students. There ARE good teachers, don't get me wrong, but the bad teachers out number the good ones. The bathrooms are completely horrible. There are 3 floors each with bathrooms on them, and they keep closing the girls' bathrooms. The 2nd floor girls' bathroom is always closed, and they always rotate between the 3rd floor and the 1st floor girls' bathroom to be open. And when they are open, they're a complete mess.

i am a senior at this school andit is the first public school I have attended. I love it. The diversity and character of each student unifies the school. The teachers acctualy care about what is going on, the security is the best in the system, and the students are among the best achieving students in the district.

My daughter is currently in the 11th grade at JMH and she absolutely loves this school. 2006/2007 is her first time in the Cleveland Public Schools System. I was reluctant to place her in Cleveland Schools because of the horror stories I have heard about the system. I even made myself a promise never to send her or my younger daughter to Cleveland Public Schools. Well JM has made me eat my words. Her grades have really improved. I wish she had begun her high school years at JMH.

I was a 2003 graduate of John Marshall. I enjoyed my time there. The teachers were great and the principals were great and I learned a lot and had fun. One thing that I didn't particularly like was that sometimes, opportunities weren't broadcasted to everyone. I was blessed enough to enroll in High Tech Academy when it first started while many of my classmates had never heard of it because they weren't told. Other than that, Marshall is among the best Cleveland Public Schools.

I'm an '06 graduate of John Marshall High School and am currently a student at Kent State University. I attended JMHS from grades 10-12. JMHS is the most racially diverse school in Cleveland and is great compared to a lot of the other Cleveland public high schools (of course, any resident of Cleveland knows that doesn't say much). JMHS properly prepared me for college (the least I can say about Cleveland School of the Arts). The mandatory senior seminar class is excellent for preparing the seniors for college. The teachers are excellent (once again, I can't say the same thing about Cleveland School of the Arts). Well, I had some great times at JMHS. I hadn't enjoyed school that much since grades 1-3 in Hawaii.

I have five children attending John Marshall this year. My daughter will gradate June 07' I always give my children advice when they leave for school. That is to have respect and a good attitude. When I go JM the staff is very helpful. The counselors and the teachers work very close with my children. Speaking for my family I am very proud to have my children attend John Marshall High School

John Marshall is a good School my oldest daughter attend this school with good grades, to day she is a college graduate, and now my youngest daughter is almost finish, I do work but I make time to see how my child is doing.I think we need more parents to be involved and help our teachers to do the best. I do enjoy this part of my daughter's life like I did with my other daughter to me it is fun. The teachers a Jonh Marshall are excelent no matter what they make time to talk to me, I also advice my daughter to behave, I dont see any thing bad, may be because I am involved.

Marshall has some of the best teachers in the state of Ohio. It's extremely rare to find so many outstanding teachers that are dedicated and truly care about their students in general these days, let alone so many in one building. Thanks to all the teachers at Marshall!

I have had two children at John Marshall and they love it there. Never had any problems with the students, teachers are great considering what they actually go through with the kids. These teachers really care about their students. Just wish alot of the parents would get more involved in supporting their kids at football, baseball what ever the sport they need to be there yelling and screaming and being there for them. Only problem I have with the school is the lack of respect the kids have for security. Attitudes galore fly through the halls. Support our school, kids and teachers get involved with what ever you can

John Marshall is not as bad as people make it out to be. All of the publicity we get is bad, none of the good stuff is ever mentioned. Like our drill team, hi-stepping team, baseball, not football but you get the picture. We may be low on supplies and falling apart but we have great teachers. They make the best of a bad situation. I Love John Marshall.

I think that John Marshall is an ok school. But i have to admitt that there is alot of voilence and disrespect in that school with both treacher's and students. The teachers, students, and parent's all need a reality check. there is too much hate going on and it really needs to stop. John Marshall students really need help and they don't put there trust in the teacher or any of the falcuty because of all this disrespect against one another. Parent invovlement is an absolute 0. The students don't care because they see that the parent's don't care. And since the parents don't care thats opening up a door for students to do more damage. that's what i think about John Marshall.

John Maeshall High school is a Terrible school. the Ceramics class is alaways low on supplies and the teacher has to pay for the supplies out of her own pocket. They serve terrible lunches and the cefeteria is hardly ever clean. The bathrooms are disguting, people smoke in them all the time and the only bathrooms are on the first floor. One bathroom for boys and one bathroom for the girls. The classrooms are falling apart as well as the bleachers in the gym. Windows are always broke and garbage bins are always overflowing. John Marshall in my opion is not a safe or high quality school.

John Marshall, being in the biggest high school in the Cleveland Public school district has by far achieved my expectations. The school is clean, the faculty are good role models for students in a well diverse environment. Graduating from JMH is awarding.
