Stivers is a unique opportunity for urban Dayton residents, and for quite a few suburban students who pay tuition to attend this arts magnet school. From the 7th grade, area arts professionals give students private lessons as a part of their education here. Students may take Spanish, French or Latin, beginning in 7th grade. The teachers and staff work together as a team to help students succeed, artistically and academically. There are ten AP courses available to give students a jump-start in college. The orchestra and jazz orchestra programs are award-winning, competing on the national level. Students are also encouraged to take part in community groups such as Muse Machine and the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestras. As a parent of three Stivers students, I highly recommend the opportunities this school offers! If your student wants to learn, the soil is rich at Stivers.

We are a military family who transferred into the high school program from another arts magnet school in our previous state. Our former arts magnet school has exceptional staff, academics and theatre programs. The theatre suffers from unprofessional and uninspired leadership. The academics are poor, not surprisingly since it is an urban Dayton City Public school. I would not recommend this school to anyone, especially military transfers and students who are academically elite.

I was a student at this school from the time I was a middle school student...and the teachers were very passionate about their subjects and were willing to help when asked...however...there were some teachers who were horrible. The hours were wonderful and the arts programs were amazing (I learned a lot). I would reccommend this school to any one who is looking to get some broadened horizons...but air on the side of caution...the arts classes are very strict and time consuming...this school is not for the faint of heart.

Stivers is a rigorous academic and art school. Students are challenged everyday to be creative, intellectual, and open-minded. The diversity of the student body is incredible and is becoming more and more diverse every year. Students are racially, socioeconomically, and religiously diverse. Yet Stivers has a strong student body that often comes together to fight for their schools arts programs. Stivers is a leader in high schools across America.

Stivers is amazing because it has a great blend of cultures and beliefs. Stivers is an art school and is one of the only schools in the Dayton, Ohio area to do well academically. We have been a light in our areas education system. While i was going there i never had to worry about racism or discrimination of any kind. People from all over the area were there and some even paid extra money just to go there who were out of the district. I loved my time there and would recommend it to anyone that wants to feel accepted as well as challenged to learn about other cultures

I love my school because we have the best principal. She is the best principal because she is serious when it is needed and she can have fun when the time is right. I have the best advisor. Mr. Acesadorian keeps us upadated with scholarships for college and he even keep us in line as far as graduating. How do you know loves their school advisor and even hangs out with him at all the events Stivers has.l love my school because we have the best perfoming arts major and I have even seen some of our people in top schools all over the world. We even have the most students who received the Bill Gates Scholarships. Thanks to Stivers it has helped me developed into who I am today. Thanks Stivers.

I love my school. I can remember a day during my 7th grade year when I was walking down the hallway in our rental school on Homewood. I was walking all alone during the class period because I had to go to my locker and I could hear a kid playing in the private lesson rooms. He wasn't playing any ordinary instrument like the piano or violin, he was playing the xylophone. At that moment, I thought to myself, 'How lucky am I?'

This school is so cool. My kids always seemed a bit out of place at their elementary schools. Here at Stivers School for the Arts, they are encouraged to be different and not fit into a mold and be what the school administration 'thinks' they should be like. The magnets are fabulous. I have 3 kids at Stivers in 4 different magnets - Choir (3), Visual Arts (1), Piano (1), and Theatre (1). My kids are excelling in their chosen fields as well as their Acacemics, all are in the top of their classes. The Staff, especially Ms. Dooley, are out of this world. They go beyond what is required of them. I would like to thank them all profoundly.

And the teachers genuinely care -- their primary goal is obviously to help the students succeed.

Stivers is fabulous! It gives the kids a well-rounded, balanced education mixed with academics and the arts. Stivers is the perfect venue for the kids to learn practical applications of academics to life experiences that leaves them with a full-bodied school experience. This experience, in turn, better prepares them for life thereafter.

I went to Stivers for middle school and high school, and those were the best 6 years of my life. I couldn't have asked for anything more with the diversity of the students, the location, and the amount of arts and possibility the school brought. The students have traveled all over the world including London, Scotland, the Bahamas, France and Spain for academic and art reasons. The students even perform as well as surrounding private and suburban high schools, and go on to prestigious and Ivy League colleges and universities. It deserves to be Americas Favorite School.

Nationally recognized Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, Ohio is the center of a very special creative community, a home away from home, innovative even in its ability to coalesce the Arts Community and community Angels into a network of support and success. The Stivers Community enjoys the academic and artistic fruits that can only be approached through the active integration of the arts and academics. Over the last decades, this dynamism has propelled Stivers, an innercity public school where the arts curriculum is largely funded through private donations, to the upper echelons of performance. Our three children attended Stivers, performing with the Stivers Jazz Orchestra, which has been recognized on two occasions as the best in the country, and receiving academic scholarships to continue their education. Their Mother and I are proud to report that one son is now a practicing attorney and trumpet player, our daughter is a legislative aide and Church Music coordinator and performer, and our youngest son is a computer engineer and an active trumpet performer. We love Stivers and appreciate the tremendous opportunities our Family has shared with the Stivers Community. This GreatSchool is truly a gem in the public education system and a beacon for the potential for educational excellence in innercity America. We thank you for this opportunity......Max & Natalie

I have 2 children which have attended Stivers and I have been very pleased with their education and the attentive nature of the principal and teachers. They are cultivating individuality and confidence in their students. On another note, it is one of the most ethnically and socioeconically diverse schools in Montgomery County (OH). I'd like to see more preparation in coursework for college with the middle school age students through those high school aged teens. Other feedback: Parents are involved and engaged. Incidents of unruliness and other negative behaviors are few and far between. Very mannerable students overall. Great school!

Stivers provides a unique setting for the student to engage in academic as well as art activities. They are creative throughout the learning process and are expected to perform and compete in the arts arena. They have been very successful in both of these endeavors giving the student the advantage of a different way of thinking. My children have come from a Montessori and a private college prep school to Stivers and both have excelled. Parents are very involved and it is this that augments the childs desire to succeed. Hats off to the Stivers team for creating a place that allows students to 'GIVE THEIR BEST PERFORMANCE'!
