I feel the schools are great - good quality teachers and good parent interaction. Children have always had support of the community in all the years I have been in GC - great growing community with a lot of ammenities for children to grow and thrive.
Grove City High School is a wonderful school, dedicated staff, and the community keeps voting against school levies, which is eradicating their sports teams for students....which the students really deserve! A wonderful school, in an area where more people are elderly and not inclined to vote for school levies because they are more worried about taxes than the kids! I don't even have a child myself, am a Grove City resident, and I care about the schools!!
The thing I like most about grove city is the history. I like the fact that it's been around for awhile, its had plenty of time to establish terrific extracurricular activities, some of which other schools don't have. However I do admit that the disciplinary actions could use some work. Other than that I think its a great school.
I loved every minute of my time at GCHS. there was something for everyone, you just had to look for it. You could do everything from the traditional (band, choir, football, cheerleading), to some not-so-traditional, like the In The Know team. 90% of the teachers are extremely willing to help outside of the classroom and are excellent teachers. My time at GCHS has been the best experience of my life thus far.
I love being apart of GCHS and being apart of the football and basketball team. Many friendships are made and this is a really great High School.
Grove City High School really needs to upgrade its assistance to students with ADHD and other learning problems. My experience with the school is that is provides students with the bare minimum assistance required by law .
The quality of the academic programs is very good. The students can participate in many different sports and band without paying a fee to play. The music program is superior. Parental involvment is good but could be much better. Overall this is a very good high school.
I'm pulling my kid out and i would not suggest this school to anyone!
I have a son at Grove City HS. He enjoys it and we feel he's getting a good education. With District budget cuts, there have been adjustments to all the staff, but things seem to be getting worked out very well. The principal is doing a great job keeping the kids and staff safe. I commend her for that. Music and sports are wonderful at GCHS - excelling in many areas.
Under the new leadership of principal Kathryn Buckerfield, the high school environment has improved in relation to student behavior. My personal experience with the administration, under the direction of former principal was appalling. The handling of student misconduct relied too heavily on the notorious 'Zero Tolerance' policy. A successful school is guided by rules and balanced by the integrity of the administration in deciphering the facts of each incident. Student achievment is compromised when haphazard discipline is applied. The school has a diverse student population and requires leadership that encourages students to reach beyond their limitations by linking students with the necessary support systems.
I found that the overall experience was good. GCHS does a good job of providing the overall high school experience to your child. The academic portion of the experience could be emphasized a little more in my opinion. The extracurricular activities are plentiful and quite successful. I would recommend this school to anyone that is looking for a good overall high school experience.
Grove City High School is one of the finest institutions high schools in Ohio. I would never dream of sending my child to any other school. I have had nothing but positive experiences with the educators in that school. I believe you get back what you give in education. The teachers are wonderful to all of the students. The students themselves that have a hard time are students that could care less about getting a proper education. A high school is not a day care center. It isn't there to babysit your child. If you work hard as you should be expected to do by any parent you will achieve. That's the bottom line. I highly recommend this school because it is one great school. The administration and the staff are of the highest quality. One last thing, This school is rated in the top 5 in the country for music.
My daughter just graduated from Grove City High School. In the Class of 2005 there were five National Merit Scholars . The Class of 2005 received six million dollars in scholarships. We have the best band in Ohio and we can prove it by winning every competition entered. Our band was invited to play for the Queen and traveled to London this year. The Class of 2005 is sending students on to schools like MIT , The Ohio State University to become Doctor's , Ministers , Music Teachers , nurses and pre-school teachers and so much more. I am very proud of Grove City High's Class of 2005.
I agree with all the negitive things people said about grove city. They do not treat people as individuals but just try to make everyone the same and the staff in attendance office is rude and some of the teachers will not put forth any extra effort. I have nothing good to say about g.C
My child is a senior this year and it has been a wonderful experience. I think that school is what the whole family makes of it. How much contact with the principal/parent involvement you have, How focused your child is on absorbing everything that they can for college, not just attending because they have to, and how active that your child is in all that they have to offer makes a huge difference in how you feel about the school and what kind of rating that you give it. At open house last, I was surprised to see that there were only approx. 3-5 parents out of 25-30 in each class that cared enough to show up. It will never be a great experience for families that do not continue to guide their teenagers in their education decisions. Anne Ford
I agree with everyone who reviewed this school. It is a very low quality education, with very low standards. The only things that were good when I attended were the band and the orchestra. That's it.
As a parent I have had experience with 3 seperate H.S. in seperate school districts. Grove City was the lowest quality. My sons were not treated as individuals but as something that needed to be 'fit' into a pre-determined career path. My oldest had to move in with his dad and attend a differant HS his senior year so he could graduate. Grove City's career path would have required him to attend an additional year. His senior year he maintained a 3.8 taking classes he was interested in compaired to a 2.5 at Grove City where his classes folowed a path. My middle son dropped out because he just could not take it anymore at Grove City. He had special needs because he is ADD/HD but this was never really given any serious consideration. He had to be fitted into a path.
There are too many drug deals in grove city high and the administrators don't bother to try to stop it at all.
