I have graduated in 2010 with honors from this high school. I liked the curriculum for the most part. The math department is challenging so they do prepare students for college. There were a variety of courses to choose from which is what I like the most. The DECA, FCCLA, FFA and IT courses challenged my leadership and teamwork skills. These courses are also apart of the vocational school, so you get them credits too. Post secondary is also offered and paid for so you can knock out a few college credits. I also love being in Environmental Science Club! The advisor is amazing and always coming up with fun ideas to involve the community and students. I believe if you are looking into this school or any other school you should always see the classes, programs, clubs and departments that interest you before attending. The website for the whole district has been upgraded so it is easy to find specific information.
Western Brown High School is the only high school in this area I would let my children attend. The teachers are knowledgeable and care about the students they teach. I have had calls from teachers in the evening hours, and on Saturdays. When my son was hurt, they went out of their way to make sure he didn't fall behind in his studies. They don't get paid enough to do all that they do, that's for sure. The atmosphere is different from any school I have ever been in, they are welcoming and friendly. Always willing to take time to talk to parents and go the extra mile for their students. When one of my children was struggling with a particular subject, the Teacher and the Intervention Specialist helped him to succeed. They do extra tutoring for kids who are struggling, after school, on the teacher's personal time. My friends say their kids schools don't go that extra mile. Extra curriculars offered are without equal in this area, as well as the elective classes that are available.
I rate western brown a three. because i feel they need alot of help in there sport program. mainly in baseball.
This school has really started to improve in all areas in the last few years. I have 2 teens at this school, been here since Kindergarden. Kids here are good at welcoming new students. My kids tell me that friends at other districts wish they could come to our school for the sports and the people. It's up to parents to ensure their kids actually study their lessons. My kids take college prep classes and the teachers teach well, tutoring is offered with other students and with some teachers. Plenty of electives and clubs to choose from to achieve a well rounded student. My only complaint is there's a lot of kids per teacher but they seem to manage it well on a tight budget. There's also post secondary college and career tech if they need other types of studies.
I absolutely love this school. even though my home school is new richmond, i would have to say that western brown has made me a better student due to better teachers, more scholastic opportunities, and all over a better district.
I feel this school system is very good. I enjoyed my time as a student at Western Brown. I would recomend this school district to anyone who is looking for a good quality education. The Teachers are great, I found them to be very skilled in there chosen areas of concentration. If your looking to participate in extracarricular activites football would be a bad decision. The basketball team is ok. If baseball is your sport thad you could excell. I give this school two thumbs up with a terry twist.
I graduated from WBHS in 1999. I attended college at Ohio University and am now a chemist for SGS North America. Granted, kids at WBHS do not have the recruitment and money of other neighboring schools, but a lot of the kids success lies witin themselves and their parents. If you want to excel it is very easy to do so. If you need help, the staff is more than willing to help. People who complain are not getting the whole story from their child(s). Its a great school with a great atmosphere!
My son came to Western Brown in his jr. year and he has had a great experience, he loves being here and he said everyone makes him feel at home. This is his last year and we hope to have as great of year as the last one. And if we had to do it again we would pick the same school.
I have the utmost confidence in the Western Brown School District. All three of my children attend Mt. Orab Elementary School. I have absolutely no complaints. The principal and vice principal of MOE are both extraordinary individuals who truly care about the success of their students. Mr. Roush goes above and beyond his duties. The school allies itself with the pee wee sports in the community and supports its students to the utmost degree. I commend the teachers and staff members of MOE for making my childrens' elementary school experience remarkable. Thank you to all faculty members who give 100 percent every day.
The only positive that I can give to the Western Brown school district goes to the Hamersville school. My son completed kindergarten through 8th grade at Hamersville, and was provided with especially good elementary teachers. They, for the most part, were exceptional. In jr. high, the trend pretty much continued. At the high school level, when Hamersville students move to Mt. Orab, this trend definitely changes. My son left this school district during his jr. year, hating school and feeling very negative. He entered another district where he has absolutely excelled! Thank you to our new school!
I think the negative comments are definitely one-sided. Look at the test scores! Heck, most of them are in the high 80s and low 90s! I mean, what else do you want? Compare that with some of the other schools in different states and they would be falling over themselves to get these scores for their kids. I graduated in 1982 and have heard nothing but great things about the new high school.
I graduated from Western Brown in 1983 and my 3 daughters went to this school. My oldest graduated from here and my younger two are in middle school. We are looking for an alternate school, does that tell you anything? We are in the process of fighting again about my daughters' IEP and 504. The teachers refuse to accomodate these documents.
As you can see we have to many students per classroom, so we need more teachers. But the main problem with this School System is not all students get the same treatment, threrefore not the same education. I know, I have experienced it from 2 very different children, one got all the help he needed, the other slipped through the cracks and got none, no matter how much I asked.
This is the most unfair and one sided school system I've seen out of three countys: Hamilton, Clermont and Brown. Students and parents don't have a chance especially if the student has a handicap of any kind. And many are that the school will not acknowlege or try to help. The discipline is a joke. Most of the time it doesn't fit the crime. Too many of the teachers shouldn't be. It would be nice if all would and could work together for our children, but for now I feel it's just my dream.
I think alot of the problems between students could be helped, but isn't. I also think the guidance dept. gets too involved in the students' lives and they need to quit.
