The principal has demonstrated to me many times through his actions and sincerity that he is wholely invested in this school. My daughter says he is "intense" but she likes him a lot and I have to agree. That is to say he has a strong and commanding demeanor but he is also fair and interested in the student's well being.
I agree, but not strongly. This issue is one that begins in the home and is reinforced at school. Bullying is taken very seriously at this school and I've learned Glenwood does some interesting exercises to attempt to mix up the students and introduce them to peers they normally wouldn't interact with. their SHIELD initiative is exercised throughout the year and stresses core values of intregrity and respect.
my daughter is able to complete most of the homework in her study hall period. Some teachers hand out much more home assignments than others. Typically my daughter spends about 4 hours a week on asighnments at home not including practicing her band instrument.
ALL schools have bullying. All of them. Jr. High is especially rough as children are learning to interact without guidance. That being said, my daughter was called horrible things, pushed, and threatened. The principal took it very seriously and very promptly. He made a genuine effort to get to the root of the problem and try to resolve the situation. There is no perfect solution. Peer bullying is a complicated issue but I appreciate the principal for his fair mindedness and genuine concern for my daughters feelings. The student councilor is equally genuine and sincere. Having your child bullied is nothing short of heart shattering but I feel the low ratings regarding bullying are unfair. We've had to move many times during our children's education and I assure you this is THE BEST school by far when it comes to handling these hard situations. So far, the school has also impressed me where it really counts. Academics, school clubs, STEM /STEAM programs, and especially arts and music. Boardman has a Fantastic music program! I can't speak to the quality of their sports program because my children do not play a team sport. I really and truly believe that they are doing great work and I'm so thankful we decided to settle down in Boardman.
Glenwood middle school has bullying occurring currently right in front of the eyes of teachers and guidance counsellors. Everyone looks right past it so they don't have to deal with the issues. Too many friends between the staff and parents of students. No one wants to interfere/hurt their out of school relationships. The staff wants everyone to be friends instead of doing their jobs and stepping up to these bullies in their school. It's a shame to have a child who once loved going to school everyday, now can't wait till the school day is over because they a scared of what a fellow student might do to them each day. Please stop looking past these problems and start addressing the issues before we lose good students to other schools.
This is NOT a safe school. The principal bullies his staff, students and promotes an atmosphere of bullying! The school was featured on Dr. Phil 10/7/10 and 48 hrs. 9/16/11 for its extreme bullying problem. Do not let your children go to this school!!! They are suppose to have the bullying statistics available on their website, they do not. Does not deserve even a half star rating.
Do not let your kids go to this school, They have a huge bullying problem and a Principal and staff that do not care it's happening. They were on a 48 Hours television program about it. Protect your kids because this school won't.
If you are moving into the area and need to know where a good school is then you just found it. The school has a great curriculum and staff. The extras include sports, drama, music, etc. The school does an outstanding job at not only teaching but mentoring kids during their transition into adulthood. I am proud of this school. My kids have been to many around the country due to being a military family previously. Highly recommend this school and this school district.
