This is a wonderful school with excellent teachers! Our children have enjoyed attending this school and have learned so much! I truly appreciate everything they have taught my children! The teachers are kind and truly care about each childs sucess. They have fun while learning at Rivers and I am so happy to have been able to place my children there!

I attended the school as a child from K-6. Back then Altus Public Schools had elementary football, and cheerleading in the elementary schools. Since then the schools have restructured to add preschool to Rivers and moved fifth and sixth to a Middle School. Now a parent of a child that has attended the school for two years and being involved with the PTO there for two years, I see wonderful things for the school. It is extremely difficult to get parents involved at the school, however, the PTO continues to raise money for the school through fundraisers and numerous school activities such as (Watermelon Welcome, Spag. Dinner, Cherry Dale Fundraiser, Santa Shop, Book Fairs, Family Game Nights, and Spring Carnival) to help better the education and classroom experience for the children. The teachers and principal are wonderful and involved with the children both inside and outside of school.

This school is the best (not greatest) the city can offer in Elementary schools. I found a huge gap in curriculum between Kindergarten and 1st grade. My middle daughter had a hard transition. My oldest daughter had no challenge in the 4th grade. She breezed through with very little homework. The school she attended in a previous state was more of a challenge for her than this one. Most teachers are willing to let parents be involved, but not all. The principal is not the greatest.

Quality is above average for the state. There are no sport programs however. There are two gifted programs, on for visually talented and the other is a basic accelerated program. Music is a class which children attend every other day, rotating with PE. Parent involvement is high.
