I a seconding the opinion made on Feb 27th. Something has to change from the top down. Principal is not conected and is snide. She refuses to take calls and will not return them either. My daughter was approved for gifted and talented last year and now that the school year is almost done she still has not been placed in the g&t program. No answers even after repeated calls. I even posted the admin at TPS Service center for G&T and still no response.
Most of the office/admin staff at Cooper Elementary School is the most unfriendly group I have come across. Not only do they have noticeable tension amongst their co-workers, they are unapproachable and get upset when asked for help. This is highly unexpected in a job that requires working with children, families, and the community. I was frustrated and dismayed to discover that Cooper does not professionally or effectively address parental concerns. When I had concerns about my child's (and the children at Cooper) wellbeing, I was ignored until I persistently called the school and even then my suggestions were not heard. This is unacceptable. I felt I was treated like an unwelcomed outsider. Staff training on effective leadership, teamwork, and communication (including listening skills) is highly recommended for Cooper. Overall, Cooper needs to deliver better leadership and organization alongside a friendlier environment, all basics of a good school. On the other hand, my child's teacher is kind, involved, and gives constructive feedback. This is the only reason my rating has more than one star.
My son was accepted into PK early as a 3YO because of a speech delay. His teacher, the special education teacher, principal, and rest of the staff have been amazing. In a few short months after starting PK (and simultaneous private speech therapy) he has made vast improvement in communication, fine & gross motor skills, and nearly eliminated negative behaviors. His PK teacher & aid, Mrs. Bond & Mrs. Graham respectively, have been very engaged with me and my son. I love that he attends PK for a full day right alongside the other students and is removed from the classroom only briefly once per week. I was skeptical of Tulsa Public Schools but have been very pleasantly surprised by Cooper. I couldn't be happier.
The teacher my son is with now is not very informative. The school is outdated and needs more space. I will probably be switching out of tulsa public schools next year.
My boys have been going to cooper since the beginning. I am always kept up to date on my boys progress and any problems that may come along. We love cooper!
three of my children went to cooper.we all realy liked the teachers, especially the pre-k teachers. There is great parent/ teacher involvement.
I have 3 girls that attend this school one just graduated this year 2004 and has been there from the start. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff teachers and other parents. They are very willing to discuss anything you need to know about your childs education and any concerns you or they may have. I would recommend any parent wanting to send there child to a good school this is the school of my choice.
