This school is my number one favorite! I have been to two elementary schools, the other of witch is closed, and currently attend Chavez. Excellent staff, though some rules are slightly controlling. But that is just my perspective. Healthy, organic, snack. We even had starfruit! Dedicated staff, wonderful extracurricular groups, including choice classes, peer-mediation, green team ( composting, recycling, etc. ) student leadership and more! The garden is amazing, and school food excluding meats and grains come from the garden. Earthquake proof, well built, and soaring high above standards in every area. This is truly, the school

This is an amazing school with a dedicated and positive staff and administration. My kids love to go to school every day. They really go the extra mile with both community involvement and family involvement. I am so happy to be part of the Chavez family.

Great facility, all the teachers I've had contact with are terrific, they really focus on what each child needs, whether it's extra help or more advanced work. PE, music, computer lab, library, all are great extras.

About the tests

In 2009-2010 Oregon used the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math; in grades 4, 7 and 10 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 10 in science. The OAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Oregon. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
