the principal and I had a meeting set up with my son's teacher .....she(the principal) did not bother to show up. Her secretary said she was too busy helping 4 other people clean up some kids vomit!!! The meeting was scheduled for a hour after school got out, so that was a blatant lie to my face. last year was my kids first year there they came from a school where the principal made himself available to you or your kids. It feels like somewhere along the line the entire staff gave up on teaching, the students cuss at the teachers and nothing is done about it.(I have seen it for myself)
What a great school! I love my daughters 3rd grade teacher who has shown care and understanding in the learning process. Her teacher is very creative and helps children think outside the box! Great caring and compassionate school who truly does care about the kids and their environment.
I enjoy having a caring school in our neighborhood that our children want to go to. Its a great school and has improved tremendously over the past few years that my children have attended. Don't judge this school by reviews written two years ago. Staff and administration has made many changes. I recommend this school to any parent who loves a caring, professional atmosphere for their children to learn in.
Every school goes through bumps in the road, and Riverview's had its share. However, the staff is committed to doing what is best for our students. During our 4 years attending Riverview, we have always been treated with respect and caring, despite being a single income large family. The drop off pick up areas have improved every year and now they have it down to a fine art. Everything from free breakfast for kids help parents with tough schedules or financial issues. We feel that by communicating openly with the teachers and staff, we have been extremely well received and treated by all the staff at Riverview, and continue in our commitment to keeping our kids at Riverview.
Riverview is a pretty school. But has some major problems.First of all the whole dropping off and picking up your kids thing, they need to re-do it.I worry everytime for my childs safety. Plus I don't think some of the teacher's can handle some of those kids. Now there are some good teacher there..
Overall for the selection of schools in the area Riverview is good. The school appears to want to cater more to the higher class parents and students, and the lower classes seem to get left in the dust. They make it very difficult for single parents and parents who actually have to work for a living. They are so worried about status that they don't seem to worry enough about the children. They need to not allow dogs on the property as it's a safety hazard. There is no protection to avoid animals and/or people from wandering into the playground. There is not enough staff for the amount of children either. There seems to be almost no effort to helping parents out, unless you have hours to spend. The teachers leave a lot to be desired also, some are great but most are lacking in many areas.
Riverview school has some very good teachers and are thier for the childrens best interest. However, some have some uppity attitudes. It needs better discipline for bad behavior problems in the school with involving parents with new parenting classes to better dicipline kids at home as well as at school. Class sizes are too big for anyone to handle and most teachers have 3-6 problem children in thier classes. I feel the school needs signs posted to keep dogs off school grounds and prehaps a better fenced off to detour unwanted people onto playground where a child could be kidnapped or assaulted. Overall I really like Riverview.
Riverview has apparently made a decision to be different where it counts: sensitivity toward parents. For example, an open house was held the day before school started so parents and students could meet the teachers in their classroom. Most schools expect parents to blindly send their kids knowing only the name of their teacher. At the end of the openhouse a schoolwide barbeque was held at 4:30 to promote a sense of community. Wow! The administration is forward thinking and putting their practice where their theory is; my son has 2 teachers. They are co-teaching the class so they can spend more time with their families. How cool is that? Finally, this school offers free breakfast to every student and limits informational paperwork to one day a week. The kids may have homework on other days, but parents only have to watch for informational papers on Tuesdays. Way to go Riverview!
Riverview has really great teachers. Class sizes are quite large, but most of the teachers handle them with great skill.
