Rieke is really a great little school. The Principal Andrea Porter is a good leader, approachable, and has been on the ball. The teachers are also wonderful! There are many student teachers who rotate into the school year, so though the class size can be high (around 26-30), often there is the established teacher, and a student teacher present, so the kids benefit. The English and math taught is really wonderful, above grade. Though, this may be a negative, the kids do have a lot of homework. The parent support is fabulous. What this means is that a lot of money is brought into the school from the community, they have an extra teacher who "floats" into the classes to support core subjects like Math and English. There is lots of parent support at school trips etc. Rieke is a hidden gem, not too many folks know about it in general, though every year the class size seems to be getting bigger. Again, for a public school, with the resources they currently have, they are thriving!

A wonderful public school- my kids love it here. Safe, great emphasis on education, and super teachers. The grounds could use some work.

Though the Rieke grounds are small and in need of updates, the community and staff at Rieke manages year after year to provide a supportive environment and a great education to their kids.

Mary Reike has an incredible staff, wonderful kids and amazing PTA. They go above and beyond being a school, it's a community unto itself that we are all proud of.

My son is entering 1st grade and I have been at the school for just his kindergarten year, but what a positive experience it had been. We are looking forward to the fall and all the new and exciting things that will take place. My son is thriving academically as well as socially. Rieke truly is the best kept secret in Portland!

The academics, the sense of community and the focus on character development in this school would be hard to match in any other school--including private and 'special' public school programs. Nowhere else in the city can you live within walking distance of elementary, middle school and high school (as well as a library, park and business area). If you have the opportunity to consider Rieke for your child/children, you are very, very fortunate.

Rieke Elementary is truly a gem. It is located near the center of the Hillsdale neighborhood in Portland and can be considered to be at the heart of the community. We have two daughters currently attending. They are both a little shy, but the teachers and staff have done a great job of helping them to blossom. Parent involvement is incredible and there is truly a warm and welcoming feeling as you enter the school. The positive results of this approach are borne out both in exceptional test scores and in the smiles on the faces of the children.
