Since deciding to pull our daughter out of private school and putting her at Willamette, we have noticed an increased awareness on her part to respect others and their various viewpoints and backgrounds. She has really liked the Community Groups and has learned a lot from the outstanding teachers. We are very impressed by the quality of the staff and leadership team. The way that they ensure that all kids are being challenged is outstanding. I have never seen a public school where the parents and community are so involved with every aspect of the school.
Willamette is a great school that nurtures parent envolvement and promotes good citizenship among its students. Academically it is excellent with 95% of its teachers holding Master's degrees.
The school touts high test scores but teaches to the tests. Students spend much time each week doing homework that is never graded and is in no way related to class lessons. Grade cards are a thesis exercise which leave parents with no real assessment on how their child is performing relative to expectations. Did not recieve one graded paper the whole 4 years my children attended. Not so much as a 'good job' sticker or any numerical score - ever!
