Kids and teachers are friendly, but I have to agree with the review from 2006. Teaching is geared toward meeting minimum standards set by the state. There will be little effort in the classroom to challenge a child who excels. More time is spent on bullying prevention and music than teaching Science, but it seems to be a fun place for the kids.

This school is great! My son comes home everyday excited to tell me what he did that day, especially in science. At BIS, they have nature trails, outdoor gardens, a science lab with animals (for studying not testing) and they get to do experiments! He also loves gym and art, which sound far more creative than the school I went to. He's even playing the recorder (like a flute). The school is definetly doing far more than teaching to PSSAs.

A great place to be, for students and staff. A friendly and supportive environment provides a comfortable environment that is conducive to learning and rising to meet the challenges that meet today's education programs. We are very proud of the work our students do and celebrate their successes at every opportunity. At BIS, we do believe that all of our students are capable of experiencing personal success and we do all that we can to support them, working together with parents, other staff members, and the community.

The academic program is geared entirely toward the PSSAs. Gifted education support is almost non-existent...terribly underfunded and understaffed. All students are required to learn at the same pace, regardless of their abilities. The music and art programs are very good, and almost every sport imaginable is available. Parent involvement in sports activities is outstanding. In academic situations it's very spotty. Basically a very good school if you have an average kid, but not good for kids at either end of the educational spectrum...special needs or gifted.
