I currently have 2 children attending this school and have had a wonderful experience. The communication is great with both the teachers and the principal. You are always welcome to volunteer at any time. Great environment for my children to learn. They love their school.
Our experiences at Pickering have been incredible! Parent involvement is what you make it. For the parents that say there isn't enough parent involvement, they obviously don't volunteer.....we get requests for help on a weekly basis. My daughter has flourished and absolutely loves PV. Teachers are wonderful and always willing to discuss the child's progress.....all you have to do is ask!
State of the art new facility that provides students with a wonderful space creating a clean and safe learning environment. Teachers are experienced and the new test scores reveal that PV is on top of the charts for Downingtown District. Staff is kind and available and as a parent you can get involved as much as you'd like.
My exeprience is mixed. Currently I am working with a great teacher that keeps me updated on the progress of my chld. However, there should be more formality in keeping the parents informed of the lessons in order to support their kids learning. If you are a working parent (that do not have the time to attend school regularly), you are not provided with an accomodating or altenative way to obtain information. I kind of feel like I am in the dark until a concern arises.
This is a really strong learning environment. The teachers are experienced, the test scores are consistently at or near the very top in Philadelphia suburbia. PV moves into a brand new building (on the same site) at Spring Break this year -- should be spacious and nice, and will likely improve the extra-curricular opportunities (e.g. art and music room space).
Parents are not encouraged to be involved in many of the school programs. slow to change. Many of the techers have been in place for a long time. Very parochial.
Very little to no information on learning progress of my child until december. No generalized method of testing or grading student. Each teacher has different approach in grading students, obvious lack of standards. We attend all Parent teacher conference and teacher has very limited time to offer parents. This school is not my first choice for my boys, this is why we are moving to a different district next year.
