Derry Area Middle School

I am extremely pleased with Derry School District. The teachers are highly educated and they work hard to not only teach the curriculum but also ensure the success of each student.

Although some materials we have are outdated, the simple fact is, the teachers don't teach it to us if it won't help us. All of the teachers and faculty are very friendly and work their hardest to see that we go through the school and learn what we need to for the real world. Although a lot of their attention focuses on upcoming PSSAs and all the like, none of the knowledge submitted to us is underappreciated. I really do enjoy Derry and I believe it is absolutely one of the best schools in the state.

The teachers are very non-intimate with students. Some need to be put out to pasture! while others are awesome. The staff knows which ones are which. The facility is great if you play sports. Not all studens are and I feel too much attention is paid to the sports program and not enough on actual life impacting education. Outdated books, classrooms with outdated material, ect. What a wasted opportunity. The school is a nicer facility but students I have spoken to have to transverse from one end to the other often making them an ineffecient student- and administration. I would as a paernt like to see the school to make more funds available to teachers to really impact students and not just try to push them through the system. I would like them to teach the kids more about what it takes to survive in the real world and not just teach them'the test'.
