I graduated from FHS in 1996 (age 35 now), so I'm twice as old as when I was in high school. Everything that has been written here is true -- outstanding teachers (faculty).. access to excellence in the arts, athletics, and academic co-curriculars...tight-knit student body. Like every school. FHS also has its warts: upper-middle class demographic that can be brutally exclusive to the "not in crowd" or the non-Fairview lifer...limited enrollment size stresses students to have broader shoulders to accomplish what their peers at larger schools do...and in a town struggling to redefine itself after losing the bulk of its local identity (vs. just an outlying Erie suburb). BUT...Fairview is the best school I've ever attended, and that includes both my undergrad and graduate colleges. The small size forces students to interact, know each other intimately, and rely upon each other. The teachers are visible in the community outside of school and families build close relationships with them. The financial security of most of the families in the district provides an atmosphere of purpose to what the students and teachers are there to do. If you can make it at FHS, college really is easy.
Elementary and middle schoos have some very good teachers and programs but just not as well done as the high school. The high school has been excellent for our children(one graduate and one upcoming senior). If you wnat an honors program, this is the best in the region. Don't take it lightly, there is a great deal of work. Only those who want a real honors program should get involved. The work is not just more homework (although there is plenty of that)but the student can really learn. In the end it is all up to the student. FHS is great for the over achiever who will get the education they deserve. The underachievers will also recieve a good education, they just wont take away as much because they don't put as much in and that's OK as long as they understand that principle.
Fairview is an absolutely incredible school. The academic atmosphere is challenging and competitive, and teachers are readily available for extra help when needed. Fairview also offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, and students excel in both athletics and arts. Most of the students at FHS have grown up together since kindergarten, and therefore are incredibly close. The students are light-hearted, friendly, and are always looking for a good time. The faculty and staff truly care for each and every one of the students at FHS. FHS does a fantastic job preparing students for life after high school...in fact, many past students say that if you can make it through Fairview, college is a breeze! As a former student, I could not have asked for a better high school experience!
The school is great for education, that's about it. The teachers and classes and learning tools are outstanding, but the students are not friendly or welcoming. Also they could use some help with their lunch menu.
