We just moved to Pennsylvania from Indiana over the summer (due to my husband's job) and our daughter started Kindergarten a few weeks ago. I cannot say enough good things about the faculty and staff at Bon Air Elementary!!! They are so devoted to the kids and their education...we are blessed to have moved to this district :-)

Excellent school, wonderful teachers and principal, beautiful newly rennovated building - like new. Smartboards in classrooms, new computers, terrific gifted program. They really take advantage of all the academic possibilities here - using local college students as student teachers, encouraging students to attend extr-curricular activities at PSU and CMU campuses. Immpressive all around.

Great elementary school - strong parent involvement, new technology in classrooms, dedicated and very visible principal, highly educated staff - young and most have Master degrees. Tons of extra-curricular options. Strong in Math and Science.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Pennsylvania used the Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 in math and reading, in grades 5, 8 and 11 in writing, and in grades 4, 8 and 11 in science. The results for reading, writing, science and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The PSSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Pennsylvania. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.
