INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Hill-Freedman World Academy is a wonderful International Baccalaureate middle school with a rigorous academic curriculum that focuses on projects that expand the student's worldview. They have a great STEM and foreign language curriculum as well as a comprehensive music program, dance and special electives. This past year the school expanded to accommodate ninth graders and will eventually serve grades 6 - 12. Hill-Freedman is unique in that it also serves special needs learners in the same environment. With passionate teachers who truly care about the education of the whole student and a principal who is determined to make the school the best it can be, Hill Freedman is truly a gem in the Northwest community.

Hill-Freedman is the best kept secret in NW Philadelphia. It is a traditional public school with a private school philosophy. The scholars are surrounded by highly educated teachers who are stern, supportive and nurturing. You will not find another school like this within the Philadelphia Public school. It is RANKED #2 in the state of PA. I will we have an excellent IB Program We have an excellent special needs program as well. I have seen other reviews about sports. The school was just approved to become a highs school so sports will come. Note, the school is developing LEADERS of our country so we can compete all across the globe. Since it is a smaller school the social aspect is great. My scholar has several friends that I believe will remain friends beyond the HFWA YEARS.

We are a small yet big family that wants to expand. With out help from others we have our building can not hold our middle school and high school. So we have to separate them. That is not the way we want our family to split apart, plus our new high school location is not suitable for 9th,10th,11th,12th graders it is most suitable for elementary students. Besides that one down put we provide excellent instruction for are students to learn and grow in life.

Hill Freedman World Academy is a fantastic school. The principal and staff are fantastic!! The student body is made up of intelligent individuals who value their education. With it being small school, all the students know each other across the grades and the staff knows them as well. The principal is stern but fair and has done at great job at keeping Hill Freedman as the jewel of the community!!

I absolutely loved this school! I graduated in 2012. The wonderful teachers helped me prepare for high school so I knew what to expect. When I was in 8th grade, I was already learning 9th grade stuff so when I did get to high school, I was already ahead.

I am a current 9th grade student at Hill-Freedman World Academy and to be honest I am not really Impressed with the School. First of as a energetic young boy I really love sports, and quite honestly, Hill-Freedman's sports program is nonexistent. To play sports for 9th grades we need to tryout at a neighboring HS (MLK) with kids we may not even know opening way for a unsafe environment. So, in the sports department I will have to give a 1. Next, we have academics, and I have to say it's amazing we have wonderful teachers who give us a lot of challenging and hard work so we can prepare for higher levels of education. As an I.B school (International Baccalaureate) we have a wide range of courses such as S.T.E.M African-American History and Spanish which is an amazing thing offered at this school. We also have personal projects we have to do which also gives us extra credits. So in terms of academics I give a 5. Lastly, Students and Socialization. Being a very small school for newcomers it can be very difficult to integrate yourself into the school. This is because if some students don't like you that is a lot of the class. So getting friends will be hard since the lack of people.

I am a current 9th grader at Hill Freedman and honestly I am blown away by how much I've learned and grew in this experience. Since school started I've felt as if the teachers and my principle really are working hard on getting me the best education possible. A+ from me.

My daughter is an alumni of this school, and she received the best possible preparation for high school while she was there. I am disappointed that the high school expansion happened too late for her to continue at Hill Freedman.

This school is a great school, the teachers and staff are very friendly and there to help you. However, the principal is rude and pompous and blows things out of proportion. His ego is in the way of the school reaching its full potential.

My daughter is in their special education program and she has progressed so much since going there. The teachers are dedicated to seeing her succeed. I am pleased that they challenge her academically. The principal is great as well. He ensures that as a parent you are satisfied with the education you child is recieving at Hill Freedman. Thanks to Hill Freedman and the hard work of my daughter she has made the honor roll!!!!

As the parent of a recent graduate or Hill-Freeman, I can say that I am glad that my child went there. The teachers there are outstanding and really care about the children and their growth. The principal can be difficult at times, but has the best interest of his student's always in mind. The curriculum was both challenging and rewarding and my child benefited from this greatly. This school is a great example of what a learning community should be.

I am a 7th grader and we are learning a lot. The teachers make learning fun. They help the students when we are in need of help. I just really like this school. The principle- Mr.Majewski- is very serious about learning and will do what ever he can to attract the students to learning. I never thought learning would be fun.

I love this school. It has done great things for African American students. They believe in us and expect the best from every student. We are encouraged to compete and be number one. I know I will get into a good high school next year because of my teachers and the principal

This school is very unique. It has a wide mix of students from gifted to profoundly impaired. The principal sets very high standards for all the students and sees to it that all students are provided equity. I have never seen a parent volunteer in this building and I have taught there for a very long time. Parents are welcome but like most inner city schools they just drop them off at the door. At this magnet school parents have choices. Disgrutal parents should exercise their options. They never due because it is the best school in town with quality leadership and a caring staff.

This is a great little school. The principal has an open door policy, You never need an appointment to see her no matter how busy she is. The studens are well behaved and motivated to do well. Teachers wear many hats. They work after school and summer to tutor students The school has an orchestra, band, golf, volleyball, soccer, basketball and lots of technology. There are computers in every room and the teachers are always learning new ways to help students. This school is a jewel!

Was greatly impressed by academic rigor emphasized [at] the school, as well as high parental involvement. However principal's attitude leaves much to be desired. While we can appreciate what she is trying to accomplish regarding HF's being the best (math champs)& more, in our interactions with her, we found her to be haughty, unprofessional, deficient in both compassion & humility. This makes her a very poor leader. We wanted to send all our children there because of the good reputation & exemplary arts program (art, dance, drama) but had to weigh seriously the value of that over the emotional welfare of our children. Had one child there, but my spouse & I agree that we will not send the others there. Extremely disappointed!

Hill Freedman is an excellent choice for middle school! The school and classroom settings are really small which is great for pre-teens as they encounter many different changes as adolescents! The students are well mannered and the discipline, structure, and security in the school is great. The homework and classroom work is Very challenging but the teachers and staff work with the students to ensure they fully understand the work without falling behind. I have noticed that the students all seem to be 'friendly competitive' and eager to learn! I am also impressed with the background and education of the teachers and staff! Hill Freedman is well kept in appearance, students are motivated and taught well beyond what u could ever expect! I'd recommend this school to any parent looking for a great middle school!

The school is pretty good. It is a very safe environment and the teachers seem well educated. You can choose from a wide range of extracurricular activities and the curriculum is very enhanced. Language Art is taught 1 year advanced and Algebra 1 is taught in 8th grade.

My daughter attends this school and it was a great choice. I like the size of the school. There are approx. 200 Students and I think that is great for a middle school. The kids are going through so much hormonal changes that a small environment is best. The academics are one of the top for the middle school.

This school was orginally started for children who have learning differences. At this school students in special education are treated like second class citizens. They are not challanged but are held back. They are never given an opportunity to mix with the children in regular. The children in special ed. enter the building from a differnt door and they are kept seperated from the general population as much as possible. Even in the lunch room. Seperate and Unequal.

At the beginning of my daughter's education @ Hill-Freedman, I felt it was too much, too fast and that my child would be overwhelmed. I soon relized this was a challenge that my daughter had to conquer and overcame and with the loving, caring staff, small classes and overall family environment...I recommend Hill J E/Freedman Samson to any parent wanting the best middle school education for their child.
