I was very concerned in 2008 when my girls Private School closed its doors for good. However, Jenks has exceeded my expectations. The curriculum is stellar and the staff from the Principal to the Janitor has our children's best interest at heart. Their is no doubt in my mind that my girls will get into the High Schools of their choosing!
Jenks teachers really care about the well-being of the students. They are commited to prepare the students to attend some of the best high schools in the city.
My daughter is in kindergarten at Jenks. Thus far we are extremely pleased. She is reading, writing and very engaged in her day. She has specialists including spanish, art, music, computers and physical education. The new principal is very energetic and dedicated. The parents are very involved. We have enjoyed becoming a productive part of the community.
Parent of a daughter in third grade and son in fifth grade. We are enjoying our learning experience at Jenks. Jenks offers instrumental music lessons, art, dance and the general academic subjects. (The upper grades also learn Spanish) The teaching and support staff are caring and committed to the children and community. Jenks is a respectful learning community. There is a strong Home and School and the administration addresses parental concerns.
John Story Jenks is an excellent school academically; and above average for a public school. The teachers are excellent and care about the success of the students. The negative is [that some] of the children seem to have behavioral problems. I make this statement because there are fights at the school. The principal is very nice but not able to handle conflict. Due to this problem there are more school police, bars on windows, and cameras in the halls. I think that if they had a strong leader and eliminated [spme] of the problem students, verbal and physical violence would go from the norm to a monthly or quarterly experience.
I have a daughter in second grade and a son in Kindergarten. I am very happy with the educational experience that our children are having at Jenks. The academic program is rigorous and includes math, literacy, science and social studies. There is a gifted program and a learning support program. There is also free after school small group tutoring in math and literacy. The teachers are excellent, experienced and professional. At Jenks, children have weekly art, music, phys ed, computers, and library. The computer lab is new. Enrichment activities also include afterschool arts, dance, and robotics clubs, basketball, as well as artists in residence, field trips and assemblies. Children have the opportunity to play the violin from Kindergarten and our instrumental program is amazing. Jenks parents value education, are listened to, and really make a difference. Jenks students tend to go to some of the best high schools in Philadelphia.
