Moore J Hampton School

My son is in the autistic support classroom at Moore. Ms. McKenzie and her aides along with Mr. Martino (3rd grade autistic support) are excellent teachers. They really care about the kids at Moore. I wish this school went up to 8th grade. I love this school. They have an excellent staff and great support team. They are both kind and friendly. As a parent I have had the opportunity to volunteer at the school, the Home and School Association does great things with and for the children. Parents really get involved at this school and Mr. Glynn is great. He has made a great transition as the new principal. KUDOS to J. Hampton Moore Elementary for being one of the best elementary schools in Philadelphia.

I just graduated Moore school June 2011. My experience at Moore was good. I liked that my teacher Mrs. Hendricks gave us hard work to do everyday. In the morning we had to write a 3 page journal in an hour. What I didnt like about the school was that the kids used alot of foul language. I enjoyed the extra curriculum activities. They had chess club, computer club, dance, and tutoring. The only thing I didnt get to do was be a myp which I would have liked to experience. Also two thumbs up to the new principal Mr. Glynn who allowed us to have fun week!! We had water ice, popcorn, and a Dj, all at the end of the year.He was awesome. Now off to St. Cecilia!! My son attends the Moore School from last 6 years,He wants to stay in moore because he likes his Principal and his all the teachers from K to 5th.For him this is best place.Yes some time he gets bored.As a parents if my child is happy in that place that is the best place for him.He wants to go to school everyday because he wants to his record clean.As parent i have to encourage my child many ways to keep your self busy not to depand on the teacher all the time.I don't have to talk about school dist financial i belive everybody knows.1100 kids in the building who you wants to blem. our parents involvement is poor but parents acpections is very high from Moore Home & School.I belive as a parents i have to do my job then i can blem to anybody in the school building.

My daughter attends the school, but she wants to do so much more but there is no activites to attend to after school. It's ashame, back when I was younger there was so much to do after school. It's all due to budget cut and they need the afterschool activites to keep the kids interested. I try to do as much as I can going to my daughter school and putting her into different programs around the neighborhood. I just wish the school could do more. As she would say...I wish I could hang out with my friends from school and do more fun stuff like we do around the block mom!

My son started Moore in Jan'07. He was welcomed with open arms. His teacher was great! In attending one of the few parent's meetings/events, I saw that Parent involvement was minimal.

I agree that there needs to be more activities for the children, academic as well as athletic. However, with severe budget cuts, those activities are seemingly impossible to develop. The school receives less and less money each year to do the same--if not more--with the students. Many teachers donate their time without pay. It is unfair to expect that we can live up to every aspect of the 'perfect school' with those limitations. However, having said that, I believe that if parents were more involved throughout the school year rather than just in May and June, when it's time to see if their child will pass or fail, the entire academic experience would be vastly different from what it is. We each--parents, teachers, students, administrators--need to take a look at our own accountability to make our school a success. Not just one entity can make it happen. Be realistic.

I am disappointed in the Moore school. I feel that the parent involvement was there but the activities were poorly organized. Also I think most of the teachers at Moore need to stop and listen to themselves- do they hear the way they address the children? I am sure that they don't or the teachers would be just as appalled as I am! Come on Moore school get it together! Focus more on academics and real activities for the kids (not movies in the auditorium) are what the kids need. The children need to be allowed to express themselves sometimes too, without fear of punishment!

the overall rating of the school is average. i think that they could do more with the children to build their intellect do something more so that they are able to stand with children all over the country as it stands right now the schools in philadelphia are way behind most of the schools in the us. it shows when they do their testing the things that they should know they don't and then they try to cram that learning for the test in a matter of a week and exoect the children to retain that information. why not just teach them from the terranova test and then you know what they should be learning at a given age.
