Wow am i glad i got out of there!! If you have a choice in schools and don't have to go there don't! It wont help you get ready for college or the real world. The teachers are horrible and so is the rest of the staff. They can't teach and this is coming from a straight A student. Anything i learned when i was there i taught to myself. To sum it up FM should be shut down and the students would be far better to attend the Amish school down the road.
I feel that the school is a fun place to go. How ever the people that are higher up like the superattendant and the prinicpals in both the elementary and the high school aren't tough enough. All that the people get when they get introuble are a slap on the hand. I don't think this is right. The kids that get introuble all the time never get disaplined but when a student that bearly ever get introuble get nailed hard when they do. It is a very bad systm.
I do not think Fannett-Metal High School prepares students enough for college. They only care about passing to make the school look better.
In my opinion this district could use more electives for the students and arts and humanities. In order to do this you would require more teachers because many teachers are already teaching middle school and high school classes. This limits the teachers time with each individual student and ability to effectively teach the course properly.
The school has sports, the faculty/admin want to win but provide no means to help coaches. It also seems that the teachers use this school as a stepping stone. I would like to see standard disciplinary actions in writing, if a student does A, 1st offense, 2nd offense and so on.
Fannett-Metals Academic level is higher than most schools. The science department is steadily climbing. There are not many choices with extracuricular activites or elective. In my personal opinion there is a lack of professionalism and positive principal leadership. Overall i would give the school a 3 to 4 rating.
This school doesn't have a shortage of extracurricular activities. It would seem to have a shortage on academic materials, however. Some students claim they don't have homework because the school cannot afford to buy enough books for each student. Many of the teachers and administration also strongly seem to demonstrate a desire to primarily work with the students who require the least amount of assistance and/or come from an elevated social status. Disciplinary actions might be determined not on the offense, as a standard, but rather on the 'graces' of the teachers and administration. The teacher to student ratio would lead one to believe that there should be sufficient time to determine and mitigate the cause of less than half of the high school population passing PSSA Math and Reading. It's unlikely that so many students are opposed to learning.
