Would not recommend...no respect at all for students. Discipline is punitive and demeaning. Principal "doubles" as 7th grade teacher. VERY weak math department. Look elsewhere
I am twenty two and I use to go to this school, really strict good academics, I went in when I was in 5th grade and I can't say I don't miss this school. I'm gonna be completely honest, they scream their lungs out in this school. When you did something wrong oh god! Every teacher would scream at you, really loud like to the top of their lungs. Even if it's the first Time you got into trouble they would make us cry sometimes, I put this on all. Don't get me wrong these teachers were kind of cool when we were on good terms with them but they were good at screaming in our faces and for any little thing, like one time Mrs. DiMuccio , our teacher (now THE PRINCIPAL) screamed at some girl because she thought she forged her parent's signature , she screamed at her bad! Like vein popping out of her neck, face bright red, and all in her face, she screamed at her in front of us. It's scary, especially when our 11 or 12, by the way it WAS her parent's signature. The apology, wasn't made in front of us though, that's not being humble. I love the academics in this school, challenging and it's a strict school. But they're discipline system is horrible. They are supposedly a catholic school.
I have three children ranging in age from 10 to 21. All three of them attended or attend St. Thomas school in Providence, Rhode Island and it has been a wonderful experience all three times. My daughter is 21 and went on to attend Bayview from St. Thomas and is now in college with no problems at all. My son 16 years old is now at a very prestigious prep school in New Hampshire and is doing wonderfully. in fact, many of his current teachers constantly comment on how he was prepared by his former school. Lastly, my 10-year-old is currently in the fifth grade at St. Thomas school. She's doing very well, sometimes she has problems with getting motivated and the faculty, especially the 5th grade teacher works wonderfully with her and all the kids to keep them interested and prepared. I can't recommend it any higher.
Hello, I would say that St. Thomas is a great school, especially for young students. My son had the oppertunity to go to this school for 2 years k and 1st grade. Unfortunately I have more children going to school now and can not afford to send them there, however what my son learned there was a strong study habit and great disipline. When he had to go to public school this year he wa shocked how the kids behaved recless and unorganized. They had nothing for homework. My sone did his homework in less than 2 min. The level of the work he was doing in school in second grade was already taught to him in !st. grade in St. Thomas. He excels above his fellow students now in public school and I have to go online to find challenging work.Wish I could send them all there.
The school needs an overhaul....including all the interrelated staff and faculty! The principal is more concerned with how she looks than moving the school forward. She dictates rather than directs and leads.
I have nothing but good things to say about st.Thomas school.I have twin boys in the first grade and was worrried when they began kindergartin last year that there was only one classroom that they would not be treated as individuals or that they would totally seperate them. I have worried for nothing-they treat the boys as individuals and seperate their seats, yet still let them do many things together. One of the boys was sick for most of last year and part of this year-he is great now,but when we were going through this hard time, miss colagiovanni and especially the principal mrs dimuccio were extremly patient, accomadating and helpful during this horrible time-people always told me never to put the kids in catholic school because you'll end up paying a tutor-they don't give extra help-so untrue-my son practically had his own literacy coach and is now doig great-i totally recommend
My daughter, a 6th grader, is just completing her first year at St. Thomas. This is the third Catholic school that she has attended, and it is, by far, the best school for her needs. The teachers are supportive and encourage her to work to her best potential. The principal maintains discipline at all times. My daughter has wonderful classmates, who come from varied socio-economic backgrounds. I love this school and only wish we had found it earlier.
I find that St. Thomas Regional school is below average since they do not teach the children how to use a library or have a computer lab for the students. These are important tools for the future of our children. The school need to step into the 21st century.
I am a seventh grader at St Thomas School, and I have enjoyed my time there every since first grade, when I came there first. The teachers are amazing, I have lots of friends, and St Thomas School is a great atmosphere.
im a student at st.thomas regional and i have to say that the teachers are extremely encouraging and make learning fun. i would recomend sending your child here. The students are very friendly here.
I am very happy to work the extra hours to have my kids go to St Thomas. I see what the kids are learning. I also see that the kids are still innocent, they are not caught up in so much of the nonsense of our society. They can still be children. The culture of the school takes out the stigma of the haves vs the have nots. My kids have friends that their parents are, doctors, teachers, lawyers and that does not come into play with any of the kids. The Principal is aware of what is going on with every child. She makes sure that all the kids get the encouragement they need, without coddling the kids. Reassurance is consistently given. I recommend the school.
I am a parent of two young children at St. Thomas, I am estatic how my kids do at school. They are learning, my kids want to be challenged to learn more of the hows and whys. Since they are younger, I want them to have to have basics in math, english, and science. In the morning they can't wait to get to school, and when they get home they get their snack and get their homework done. I have noticed a few kids that misbehave. Their parents work in the public schools systems. These parents are also the first to say the school is too strict. Discipline is needed in a learning enviornment, one very important reason my kids do not attend public school. I take it as a compliment to have public school teachers kids in the school. There parents know there coworker's are doing a poor job!
I cannot tell you how much I think positively about St. Thomas Regional School, it's administration, teachers and staff. My son was a student there for 6th, 7th and 8th grade, and let me tell you ~~ we never had such wonderful and enjoyable experiences with a school. My son had attended public schools, and even though he did well and was always a good boy, when he transferred to this school, his whole attitude changed for the better. He totally enjoyed Dr. Lawson, Mrs. Colagovanni, Ms. Danesi, ( who has since married ), Mrs. DiMuccio, Sandy...everyone ! I also throughly love these people. They made me feel accepted, appreicated with parent input and I never once felt intimidated by them. They work so well with the students and the parents, how could anyone go wrong. I am so sorry that this school does not go through highschool.
I'm a student at St Thomas School and I love it because there is so much fun in this school, and I receive a great education.
I was a student at st.Thomas for only two months before i just couldnt take it anymore. My fellow classmates were brainwashed by going there so long that they actually thought this was how a school should be run. The dicipline is so strict i was threatened of being sent back to my old school for not doing my homework. (Sounded like a good deal). I was told that feild tripes were manditory even though they were out of state and i did not feel comfortable going. I would not reccomend sending your child here. I also was not aware of any sports or extra carricular activities while i was there.
I was a Student at St. Thomas Regional School. I feel the teachers were not encouraging and they loved to put the children down. I left that school and went to another school in which I am much happier and receiving better support and grades. If you want your child to receive a good education, I recommend sending your child to a different school.
I would recomend this school to anybody in the Providence RI area. The staff are encouraging to the kids the parents help out. It is what Hillary Clinton states it takes a village to raise a child without the government intervention. Rhode Island needs school vouchers for parents choice,
My daughter has been attending St. Thomas Regional School for the passed nine years. She is now going on to high school and she is in the honor roll. As a parent, I would like to say that the decision of sending my child to this school has been the best decision that I have made.
My daughter has been going to St. Thomas for the past two years. I can say, without reservation, that I love this school. The teachers are nurturing and well trained. Moreover, they provide an excellent after-school program for working parents. The school teaches sacrifice by teaching the children to be givers to the community as well as ABCs and 123s. It is an excellent school.
first let me say that I hope the child of the last poster spells better than the parent who did post there..As for our child who has been going there the last 2 years, the academics are tops. This is the first year ever that she has made the honor roll and its because of the teachers that have taught her that she can excel. Some of the other parts of the school such as discipline has alot to be desired but overall the school is wonderful.
