UCAP's acceleration is unique in Rhode Island. It gives kids who have been held back a year or more a chance to catch up to their peers. These are kids who are at high risk of dropping out because they will hit high school with poor academic and social skills and they will be a year older than their classmates. At UCAP, a caring and dedicated faculty and staff have adopted a "Whatever it Takes" approach to make sure every student who walks through the door will succeed. After 20 years serving at-risk students, we have the experience and data to prove that our model works.

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Rhode Island used the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 in reading and math, in grades 5, 8 and 11 in writing, and in grades 4, 8 and 11 in science. GreatSchools ratings currently reflect 2013 test data; the ratings will be updated when the latest NECAP science data is made public and available in the summer of 2014. The NECAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Rhode Island. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.
