Wow were do i start, let me say that my son has a good teacher who slightly cares about his progress. Although she could be better u get what u get huh. The principal at this school is very quick to judge and is not concerend with raising api scores at this school more concerend with ruling with quick suspension instead of alternative means of disapline, for the slightist infraction. The office staff is great. The princpal is non -approachable, stubburn, and just plain out mean. Not enough extracurricular, and the after school program is ok could be stronger and more orginzed.

My daughter is a first grader at Gretchen Higgins Elementary and my suggestion for parents is to visit their child's classroom on a regular basis. Becoming involved early and often is crucial to your child's success. In my opinion there are definitely some teachers at Gretchen Higgins that should not be educating children. I found several to be impersonal, impatient and downright unpleasant. The principal is very approachable and the office staff is always helpful and friendly. Unless you have the time and resources to work with your child at home to ensure they are progressing, I would reccomend that you send them elsewhere.

Overall Gretchen Higgins has alot of great teachers, but there are some bad ones in nthe bunch. Parents can become very involved with their child's learning process, going so far as visiting the classroom while class is in session. Gretchen Higgins big problem area is their lack of extracurricular activities. Over all, a pretty good school.

Our six-grader Daughter, enjoys the freedom of choice. We allow her to pick and choose as she makes good choices, she has demonstrated responsibility in her decisions. Making (Pizza) & Tomatoes) are Vegetables came from USDA. Freedom of Choice.

No. I prepare my son's lunch just about every day due to his special needs so I know what he is consuming both for him and his class. I want to be aware of all ingredients in all foods/drinks which he is consuming.

If it is to keep allergic kids safe, then no. A strict rule of no peanuts or pb&j should be enough. My child's school had a peanut free table for double insurance. If for "nutritional" reasons, then NO! Since when is pizza a veggie????... More »
