What college preparatory school lays off their Director of Guidance? As a parent I have seen this school thrive many years ago; however, recent administration has seriously hurt the integrity and mission of this once stelar institution.
I have a good friend who has attended this school for years. They said it had been a good school. They said with the economy going down the school has cut vital positions. I guess it is not good when you hear your HS child say, "Mom the guidance counselor was laid off." My friend's son had to leave because he was getting little to no support from anyone with college planning. The school has also declined in what it offers too. If one does decide to attend hear many classes have "secret price tags". Also my friends son said, "do to the lack of teachers I was placed in classes I was not even supposed to be in according to the school s class requirements, like being in a science class that required a complete successful year of algebra 2 before I take physics, not taking algebra 2 while taking physics, The scary thing is some of the smaller public schools in surrounding towns offer a better education.
If you are considering, sending your child to CHS, It's a tough call. At least that has been my experience as a parent. The distinction CHS had worked so hard to achieve and maintain has noticeably declined over the years. Our HS student has received from some of the teaching staff an excellent academic experience and with others not so much. It has been our experience that what you get for your $15K is not what a Christian School experience should be. There is a lot of attitude, and not much support. If you are not a subscriber to the Good to Great Theory, than be prepared to be pushed off the bus, if you have an opinion! That being said, the return on your $15K annual tuition investment is difficult at best to rationalize, and yet choices here in CT for a Christian education here in the Fairfield County area are limited. Otherwise I would have looked into alternative options.
I am a student in Middle School and I want people to know that for the first time I really like school. I am in 7th grade and I like just about all of my classes and i can be involved in sports and the teachers care about me. in my old school i was just a number and my classes didn't challenge me because the kids who struggle are given the attention. I am glad i am at chs and now my brother is coming too.
