New Haven, in spite of it s poor reputation, has produced a number of fine young people. I myself graduated from New Haven. In school, my grades were always average. In college, I found that I had been prepared enough to be on the Dean s list every semester and graduated with honors. This school is small enough that everyone (including the teachers) know everyone else. It s like an extension of the family. I made sure to move back to the district to send my children there. One graduated in '04 and one will graduate in '05 and both are doing extremely well in life. I would never dream of sending my children anywhere else.

Small school district - covers a lot of geographic territory. Wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Which is good! Kids have strong bond of unity. Teachers are very involved. Don't let statistics - which are not valid when volumes are low - impact your decision. My children are doing very well and have made some very nice friends. It's a small town atmosphere with a great deal of pride, love and support - both academically and in athletics. My children would be devastated to have to go anywhere else. Oldest is 16 and plans to attend U of M and pursue publishing in New York City. Budget doesn't allow lot of electives - no 'laptops' given out - but they learn what they need and school has character. Kids aren't all well-to-do, some are - but it is not a competitive crowd socially. Great school!

Absolutely, because kids are an integral part of their own success. If they are forced into uncomfortable situations they shut down. If they explore their interestes..they blossom. Love not conformity.
