How do you like the changes that have come about since our NEW principal has taken over? Dances are back if that was your problem. Also, please know that if the students pass the state mandated tests they ARE getting a good education, covering areas that should be covered in each grade. We are at a big disadvantage when it comes to substitute teachers,,,no one wants to do it! Perhaps if you meet requirements you could put yourself in those teachers shoes for a day and see just how hard it is to impart knowledge daily to ANY student. What kind of individualized instruction do you want and what do you expect the teacher to do with the other 19 students in her class while giving all of her attention to one child. We have a hardworking PTOwith about 15 members for those 486 students. What does that tell you?Not a Teacher!

I would like the school functions such as dances and prom returned back to our school. It is not fair that our children cannot enjoy something so memorable as their prom. As far as the teachers go, I find that they are fairly receptive to parents and their concerns. I am very proud to be from Monterey, I actually went to this school myself and find that over the years many students turn out to be great leaders from MHS.

My children have been going to this school for two years. Its in a very small community and its very clanish. My children are still considered outsiders here. There are not very many extracurricular activities for the children, and the principal has cut out a lot of things that make school enjoyable for the children, such as school dances and functions. There are some good teachers and some bad, like every school. The classroom sizes are small, which i like. However, you would think with such small class sizes, the children would recieve more individualized instruction. They don't. One other thing that bothers me is that they seem to concentrate more on making sure children know just enough for the school to make the best scores on the leap tests than concentrating on the kids actually mastering their subjects.

You get what your tax dollars pay for! Excellent school for the money in my opinion.

Check to see if students with disabilities are a priority because otherwise the state doesn't pay for that child to go to School if they don't have a disability your child has to be put on a waiting list for pre-k! if their not

1.Go on a tour of a school tour 2. Talk to the director (and the teacher your child will have) about what the students day like. 3. Watch school in session 4. Look out for red flags: neglected children at play, lazy, non engaging teachers
