My 6-yr old loves it there. Check out their Accountability Report online at the Washoe school district website, it simply is the best overall.
I was trying to decide between paying close to 10K for Brookfield kindergarten or taking my kids to hunsberger. I visited both campuses as well as other elementary private schools in reno. I don't know what brookfield does with their money because the campus is so old and doesn't have updated technology. I was initially biased against hunsberger as it was public, but heard so much about it from principals and teachers of other schools that I had to spend the day there. I was first impressed by the clean and well kept newer open campus. For a public school, it was very impressive in location and facilities. Next I looked at the parents and was so impressed at the number of moms in the kindergarten classroom. The students were so involved and looked so alert compared to the other schools I visited - including the montesorri down the street.
I had a kindergartener this past year and was very pleased with the entire school experience -- great teachers, great students, great parents with lots of parental involvement. While the 2 1/2 hour day was short, if you can manage the schedule for kindergarten I highly recommend it! The kids learned far more in that 2 1/2 hours than I would have expected, and they seem ready and enthusiastic about entering 1st grade.
I have three children who attend Hunsberger and love it! My son has behaviorial challenges and the Principal and Dean of the School have really helped my son. He has never been judged, instead is has been loved unconditionally, but with appropriate firmness. The teacher, principal, and Dean have kept my husband and I very informed of his school work and behavior. I would never go anywhere else!
